How do you force a miss-jump?

Post by LittleBear »

Silly question, but how do you force a miss-jump in Oolite?

I've been playing for 5 months, but I've never encountered a Thargoid Witch Space attack. Either very lucky or unlucky not to be able to have a go at the insects.

Answer is proberbly on Boards or Wikki, but I coudn't find it were a search.

Be pitching up at the maximum rate (pull back on the stick and keep it back) as the countdown passes through zero.

Thanks. Worked a treat!

The space battle in progress between the Cruisers, navy ships and the Bugs is awsome! (thanks to the new Behomoth.OXP)!

Just one suggestion to improve this already brilliant mod:-

Could we have some "combat chatter" over the radio, such as the Cruisers calling "Join the fray commander and assist us!", Navy ships calling "The bugs are slicing my shields up. I need my wingmen!", "This is Red 5. I'm going in" etc!

I'm finding that the Thargoid ships are committing suicide a lot. When you attack them, they often appear to be launching their fighters into themselves. So you see a series of little explosions followed by a big one. Followed by "Your tennis rackets are fish-flavoured!" over the radio.

Anyone else seeing this?

Do you get the BBQ or coq au vin variety? I mostly get BBQ. The coq au vin is much tastier.

Getting back to the question about suicidal Thargoids - I have seen the occasional Tharglet explode upon launching, but never enough to kill the mothership.
It is generally inadvisable to eject over the target you just bombed.

That's excellent.

I just participated in the war.

I kind of got confused about where the docking slit was on a behemoth, you can dock with them right. I was going to see if they'd give me a good prive for some thargons. So I survived the battle only to plough into a freindly ship.

So where's the docking slit on a behemoth?

Can you use docking computers. I once tried with a rock hermit but computer wouldn't have it and kept tewll me I was out of range of the space station. Do you have to target the thing you want to dock with first?

The docking slit is at the front. You can auto-dock, but not insta-dock, by targeting it and pressing shift-C.

oh, I see

I seem to have come across the 90 degree docking slit bug as well.

Still, fun to take part.

I cannot dock at all!

The slot is North / South, whilst the ship is East / West.

I think we need more bugs, as they seem outgunned by the Navy!

To dock, I aligned myself to fit thorugh the whole in the front of the ship, slowed to a dead crawl and as soon as I started to colide, I rolled by 90 degrees. From reading Littlebear's post, i assume if I'd aligne myself with the slit, I'd have hit the ship and died?

BTW, I'm in a python so I might be able to take more damage.

I found that I could buy equipment, but they didn't want to give me any money for the thargons I'd picked up, which I thought was a bit cheap of them. They didn't even say Welcome commander monte, thanks for your assistance in kicking insectoid thorax.

In the original Elite, you had to hyperspace again to get out of witchspace, with the double cost of fuel, so if you were going to a fairly remote planet, you could get stuck in witchspace. Is this the case in oolite? I noticed that after docking and re-launching I was in normal space at my desitination. I guess the bohemoth was nice enough to give me a lift into normal space?

I've tried auto-docking. Hitting C just gives the message "station could not be contacted for docking instructions."

I blow up if I go anywhere near the Behomoths!

I have 1.65(beta) PC. The ships are appear normally, but instead of having a docking port at the front, it is rotated 90 degrees.

Thanks. Tried that and docked ok.

Still think there should be more Thargoids, though (say 20 ish).

I'm finding that the fleet detroys the Thargoids in moments. If we have a hugh human fleet in witch space, then there should be a big Thargoid fleet as well!
