Harmless on BBC Model B disk Elite: I had a friend at whose place I played a couple of times. I did read his copy of "The Dark Wheel" and I made a photocopy of the flight manual.
Very Deadly on Archimedes Elite. The coolest Elite version until the great folks around here created Oolite.
Dangerous on Oolite. Where are those goids, I need a lot more kills!
So you should vote Very Deadly.
As for the 'goids, try forcing a misjump, you'll find all the 'goids you could ever eat!
"Harmless" on the BBC Model B that I was allowed to (briefly) play on - never saw a manual, so the game probably fell off the back of a floppy disk. Could never get the hang of the thing then...
... but <cough> years later, I'm now "Dangerous" on Oolite
Commander Ranthe: Flying the Anaconda-class transport Atomic Annie through Galaxy 2. Combat Ranking: Dangerous
"Big ships take more booty on your interstellar flights..."
I reached Elite on the C64. I also reached a rank I've never seen before or since in a PC port of Elite: The rank was ArchAngel. I think the version may have been glitched since I reached Elite and ArchAngel while completing all missions while never leaving G1.
Hi W00dwrkr and welcome... Archangel was only a title that replaced Commander. You got it for the Thargoid-infested station mission, I think.
PC Elite Plus did have a few bugs, certainly... the joystick was one of them.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
Elite on BBC micro, played at lunch times at work, took a while.
Elite 4 times with Oolite, started from scratch on some of the upgraded versions for fun.
Never once downgrading my Cobby III, for quick equipment. That is unthinkable.
LOOK OUT!!! OOPS.. "Press Space" Commander
If you do not see "Press Space" more often than you want.. Your not trying!
Deadly, I think, years ago on the Amstrad 464, and that was without having ever found the Constrictor Hunt mission (I may have always gone galaxy-hopping far too soon). Dangerous on Oolite.
"Sidewinder Precision Pro" and other Oolite fiction is now available for Amazon Kindle at a bargain price.
Pretty sure there wasn't a version of Amstrad CPC Elite with the Constrictor Hunt mission, so I don't think you missed it. I only ever heard of it having the nova, the Thargoid space station, and the cloaked ship, and those were the ones I got while playing through it (when you have an ECM Jammer and Cloaking Device, those Thargoid squadrons soon wish they'd never interrupted your hyperspace jump!)
"Elite" on Amstrad CPC Elite, "Deadly" on Oolite... though both involved plenty of reloading to get there!
