I fear this might be a very stupid question, but I was unable to figure out how (or if) it can be done:
Is there a way to subscribe to a topic in a way so that I don't receive an email if something happened, but instead a small notification on the board itself - just like the notification if new messages (pm's) have arrived? (that one on the top left - right beneath the logout button)
This whud be sooooo cool.

As far as I know, not with this board. phpBB2 supports email subscription for topics and a RSS feed for the whole forum. A function which you requested (which I'd like as well!) is probably possible with mods, though.
I know that phpBB3 offers RSS feeds per topic, but this forum runs with version 2.
Perhaps the "Bookmark topic" option would be close enough to what you want? As far as I can see you won't be notified on the front page, but there's a list of you bookmarked topics available under your User Control Panel. So you could go to that list (perhaps you can bookmark it directly in your browser) and see at first glance which of the topics had a new reply.
Corny and Commander McLane, thanks for your answers! Already thought that...

That's exactly what I do But I hoped there was a better way. Well, I guess it can't be helped then No need to cry... ... *sniff*
