Local boy does well...

Post by Selezen »

I wanted to say it here first, cos you guys are all special and I've just been told it's OK to mention it.

Frontier Developments are going to use elements of the timeline "wot I wrote" in the background information for Elite Dangerous fiction. Not only that, but I was asked to expand on it and write up a historical sourcebook for GalCop and Lave that would be used in a "Fiction Bible" which would then become part of Elite "canon" for the release of Elite: Dangerous.

Needless to say I'm pretty stoked about it. I submitted the first draft of the sourcebook on Saturday and it was well-received. I won't be expanding on what's actually in it until it all goes public next year though.

I wanted to thank you lot here for your support in regards to the timeline and my site in general. If it wasn't for you guys it would just have been another unnoticed piece of Elite-related stuff but you made it worthy of note and I have a feeling that if it hadn't been for this forum it wouldn't have reached the attention of anyone at Frontier.

A dream I've had for two decades is now becoming reality and I just wanted to acknowledge the Oolite forum's part in that. :-)

Thanks, everyone.

Congratulations! :D :D :D :D

Also, given how immensely useful your timeline has been over all these years, I really think you deserve it.

Excellent! And richly deserved, too ... it's also very encouraging to see Frontier Developments taking note of the existing fanwork. Fanon becomes canon! :D

PS: typo in original post:

The power of a single typo to completely change the meaning of a sentence - cool.

LOL. Well noted. All fixed now and making more sense.

And thanks for the good words, everyone. :-)

The wife keeps grinning at me when I talk about it cos she says I'm like a big kid who's just got his Christmas presents in April.

The weirdest thing is that I'm sending emails to Frontier Developments staff. Directly. Including The Boss. And not getting any sort of "cease and desist" order!! It's actually a bit surreal.

Not only richly deserved, but fantastic news as well! Your timeline was instrumental in the Oolite Saga and will doubtless come in very handy for the writers (and I'll have a head start as I'm already familiar with it!)

Does it not go public a bit earlier though? I could do with a copy... well... now-ish to be honest!

Cheers,

Drew.

It will go public earlier, yes. Once each sourcebook is consistent with its companions then I think it'll be getting released to the writers. I'm not sure, but you'll probably find out for definite at the same time I do.

I've said I won't discuss anything that the group is talking about in public, sorry. :-)

Cool. Mum's the word. I have something similar going on. ;)

I'm blown away by the spectacular awesomeness of that news!

Congratulations! Richly deserved recognition!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
