It would be interesting to know which handlers are fired when the -load parameter is used... You never know how OXPs are doing their own start routines...

Re: Oolite 1.77 deployment build issues
With 1.77 deployment, I am seeing two beams using port or starboard lasers. Just verified this oddity did not exist with 1.76. I am flying a Cobra 3 with Griff's definitions. One beam originates from the defined location, and the other port side beam appears as it does with the forward view (i.e. straight away). The starboard beams both originate somewhat aft of the starboard view, separated by a few meters. It almost seems with port view both port and forward lasers are firing while with starboard it is starboard and aft lasers. However testing this hypothesis, forward and aft laser temperatures are unaltered.

Confirmed... with a Griff or a vanilla Cobra III too (I think... not properly tested). I never use the side lasers, so hadn't noticed.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Oolite 1.77 deployment build issues
I vaguely recall noticing this at one point, but assumed at the time it was somehow forward-motion related. Didn't pay much attention because my usual ships don't have side lasers.
Without firing up Oolite to check, (my poor little 1.1 GHz CPU doesn't like having Firefox & Thunderbird running when playing Oolite) does the effect appear if you are stationary?

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Good point... when completely stationary, the laser seems fine. But with just a tiny bit of speed, the beam splits.Diziet Sma wrote:... does the effect appear if you are stationary?

Ah, that. While it may not look it, it's an improvement on 1.76 where the shot would be entirely in the lagged position (fire the laser on injectors and it would be drifting some way behind your ship) - now only the first frame of the shot is. But yes, there's still some fixing to do there.

But...

Re: Oolite 1.77 deployment build issues
No contradiction. Up until 1.76 side lasers were always and consistently out of place when moving, so much so that you perhaps wouldn't even recognize that they were out of place at all. In 1.77 they are at least a little bit in place* (but continue to be out of place at other times), so they appear to be in two places at once.El Viejo wrote:But...CaptSolo wrote:Just verified this oddity did not exist with 1.76.
*herein lies the improvement: always out of place -> sometimes (rarely) being in place

Thanks, McLane... I think I need coffee!

Fore and aft likewise. Most obvious when firing the aft laser on torus drive.Commander McLane wrote:No contradiction. Up until 1.76 side lasers were always and consistently out of place when moving

Re: Oolite 1.77 deployment build issues
Yes, true. I have always tried to counteract this on my ships (and also when I redid the view- and weapons-positions in the original set) by moving the rear laser so much forward that you wouldn't see its end unless on torus drive. For the front laser it's hardly noticeable anyway.cim wrote:Fore and aft likewise. Most obvious when firing the aft laser on torus drive.Commander McLane wrote:No contradiction. Re: Oolite 1.77 deployment build issues
Laser positioning should be fixed in r5631.

Re: Oolite 1.77 deployment build issues
Thanks, cim... that appears fine now, even at torus speed.
