Have you got a NVIDIA Geforce with Windows Vista/7/8?

Post by JazHaz »

Have you got a NVIDIA Geforce GPU with Windows Vista/7/8?

If so, then you can get a program from NVIDIA that easily downloads new drivers, and gets optimisations for your installed games. Its called the Geforce Experience and is in beta.

Get it from here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/geforce-experience

We've got 200+ machines at work all with nvidia cards, however, most still run XP. Also for us, newer isn't always betterm :-)

Apparently XP support is planned but not yet available in the beta.

Cool, but I refer you to point 2, newer isn't always better (for us - we have some very temperamental bespoke Gov't/Military Simulators)

I'm curious - are you using this, JH? If so, does it set (or recommend) 'Threaded Optimisation' on or off for Oolite?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Well it doesn't have a setting for Oolite. Only a limited number of games at the moment.

Edit: See the list of games here.

Edit2: I have Threaded Optimisation turned off.

Ah, I misunderstood - I read through the blurb, and got the impression that you ran a game, then it optimised the settings.
If it's only the AAA games that they already cater for, then I don't need it. Yeah, TO needs to be off for Oolite.

Thanks for the tip - seems to work fine although I have only one game installed (at the moment) that it recognised (Skyrim). I'm sure it will be handy when I install new games. :)

Nah, the rest of the supported games (from the list on their website) hold no interest to me whatsoever. So, no sympathies needed. :)

Far Cry 3 is one that I will get eventually, when the price drops enough. The rest, no.

I believe the games list will be expanded as the program moves out of beta.

I meant my sympathies about having Skyrim. Was a joke.

Kinda figured that you were joking from the smiley, but I wasn't sure what the butt of the joke was... ;)

But, yes, Skyrim is a time-eater... :/

It's a GeForce only tool. Support for other nVidia chips (I have Quadro on my laptop) is under consideration according to the forum. It will suggest driver upgrades for the Quadro though.
