From plain jane to brightly colored, these experimental cobra3's have procedurally generated paintjobs automatically put together from a random selection of patterns and colors with up to 2 random colors on each face. A modified CustomShields oxp prototype allows for great precision with which to scorch the paint off of unshielded hull sections at the level of individual faces. Within this framework scripts can be tied to this to trigger catastrophic damage events and the exact location can be placed based upon script info or the damaged face itself. The best way to put all of this together is in a shipset oxp and so that is what I will be doing.
It took 2 months of hard experimenting and playtesting to get to this point and 2 more should see a simultaneous launch of CustomShipsv0.8 and CustomShieldsv0.9, which perhaps may usher in a new era of colorful ships full of variety and flavor and such shield and damage effects as to excite the senses. And all useable by non-shader low end computers and netbooks.(Oolite versions 1.76+)
Stay tuned...
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.
I have finished the conversion of the core ships to allow for the ability to control the paint job on a face by face basis. As of last night all the ships now have damageable paint that scorches and any errors in the conversion process have been debugged up to this point. In testing, I'm finding paint that scorches to be much more fun and immersive than I had previously thought.
Now starting on the creation of scripting and maps to make individual random paint jobs for each ship...
