Definition of Clean

Post by Bothkill »

Recently I decided to abandon the Clean status (had to wait too much to bump into offender/fugitive ships even in Anarchy systems), but to my amazement after killing the Anaconda in a 7-clean-ship convoy, my status didn't change. It still didn't after killing the remaining 6. Nor did it change after killing 4 more other clean ships.

How does the Legal status work in Oolite?

In Spectrum Elite, if you weren't a fugitive, the first wrong kill would make you fugitive on the spot.

Ha, your mis-deads have to be witnessed by the Police. Try shooting something when there's a Viper around or in the station Aegis (or better still shoot the Viper or the station  ) and you'll soon get the criminal status you crave :D

This brings me to something that I've wondered about for a while. I've noticed that mis-deeds need to be seen by Galcop, or within Aegis, but what about those Black Monk bastards? They seem to get away with about half their whackings without any legal recourse (even within the above mentioned parameters) .

Are you sure their victim was clean when killed? If they already had Offender/Fugitive status, then the Black Monk would not be penalised for killing them.

(I love it when a BM gets a fugitive tag.. gives me an excuse to whack the bastards..)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Excellent point. To be honest, I'm not sure if the victims are always clean - I do know that I almost always attack Black Monks when I receive a distress call. I'll have to keep a close eye on that and see if the victims are clean or dirty. If they're dirty that would explain perfectly why it so hit and miss.

The [EliteWiki] Black Monks are loan-sharks!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
