I can certainly confirm they swap between Windows and Linux without issue, although never played the game on a Mac to comment.

Oh great news, I may be lucky and still have that folder somewhere. I pretty dumped my entire Mac drive onto an external, so I will give it a go.cim wrote:Should be fine - the save file is just an XML document, so there shouldn't be any problems transferring it.Telengo wrote:Plus I guess a Mac save does not work with Windows?
Thanks for the information guys.

Great news I am no longer "Harmless"! Back to "Competent" again, although I do have to go and install a SuperCobra OXP to get my game to load. Not sure I fancy using that though, as I absolutely love the texture's of Griff's ships. I went with the "Novice/Noob" OXP list and everything looks so amazing! Such good work there.

Ain't that the truth... there is always something I forget to back-up whenever I do a full format!Telengo wrote:I do back up my documents, music blah blah. But sometimes things slip through the cracks...
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Should be pretty straightforward to edit your save to use Griff's Cobby instead of the SuperCobra. (just remember not to use Notepad when editing)Telengo wrote:Great news I am no longer "Harmless"! Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Yep... maybe try Griff's multi-decal alternative Cobra III. A very tasty boat!Diziet Sma wrote:Should be pretty straightforward to edit your save to use Griff's Cobby instead of the SuperCobra.

Re: How many people have made it to 'ELITE'?
Well all is sorted now, I managed to trade down my Super Cobra for a proper Cobra MKIII (which was handy as there was a lot of credits tied up in it). So now I have a few to spare to bounce around the galaxies looks for people to increase my rating.
I will give the multi-decal ship a go as well El Viejo, not seen a shot of that yet.
Hope the thread was derailed too much.

Have a pic... Rolling Thunder, outbound from Celaqula main. Custom paint-job, plus four decals of your choice/design.Telengo wrote:I will give the multi-decal ship a go as well El Viejo, not seen a shot of that yet.

Just started a new game. Decided to keep only eye-candy .oxps. No random hits, navy etc. Wanted to reach Elite the 'right' way. My goal is to hit Elite before 2014. We will see.

Currently dangerous and at 1724 kills. So a lot to go to Elite.

Re: How many people have made it to 'ELITE'?
After some time, about 6 years I think, with the same commander, I am about to get get to 120 kills. This is due mainly due to me finding the combat part of the game the most boring.
I tend to avoid any combat if I can, which at times takes a lot of skill, I turn up afterwards and scoop the spoils and any escape pods I find. I cannot remember the last time I actually bought any cargo. As the cargo space was just wasted space in my Fer de Lance, which I bought secondhand but decorated nicely, I fitted a couple of passenger spaces, they pay better than trying to buy low and sell high. For fun I mine asteroids sometimes and scoop interesting stuff.
So far I have found no reason to leave Galaxy 1, there are still some places here I have not seen.
Elite rating does not interest me, Explorers club rating would mean me playing for decades more before getting to Galaxy 8, which leaves me with a troomp rating for trading perhaps, but nothing for a galactic taxi rating.
I just live the moment and rate myself "mighty fine."

Re: How many people have made it to 'ELITE'?
I've never made it to Elite. Deadly has been my highest ranking, on the BBC and Spectrum versions of Elite, plus on my old Oolite commander. My current commander is only Dangerous, with just under 1100 kills.

Firstly, congratulations on doing it "your way". Kudos, Commander!tinker wrote:After some time, about 6 years I think, with the same commander, I am about to get get to 120 kills. This is due mainly due to me finding the combat part of the game the most boring.
That said, while I've seen a great deal written about combat over the years, I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever seen it referred to as "boring"!
