Keyboard control not smooth

Post by simon.brouwer »

Hi,

installed Oolite PC on a Windows XP SP2 machine (Athlon XP 1600+). It works, kind of. But while short taps on the cursor keys have no effect at all, pressing them somewhat longer turns the craft too much, so that it is impossible to point it to the docking bay. The frame rate is also not that great (about 2 to 4 frames per second), which may be related.

Oolite snapshot build of svn revision 527 (2006-05-06)

Any ideas?
Best regards,

Yes.

Update your graphics card drivers so that OpenGL is rendered by hardware.

Oolite is rendering in software mode and that takes ages - so long between each game tick that your key presses are either not registering or appearing to be between 0.25 and 0.5s long.

Even with lousy Intel integrated onboard graphics, you should get at least ten times that frame rate with that CPU. I second what Giles says - check your OpenGL drivers - it's likely you don't have any installed for your particular hardware. Note that Windows XP does _not_ come with drivers for either ATi or nVidia cards - you have to obtain these and install these - download them from either ATi or nVidia or find your driver CD.

Agree with the above. Check your drivers.
