Could we have a sound notification for turning on and off the Torus drive?
It's true there are 2 visual indicators showing that Torus drive is operating:
1. space debris trailing past you and
2. approaching the target at greater speed.
But the first visual indicator is not always available.
For example, after you fuel scoop the sun's corona and turn on the Torus drive (either in the same system or in the first hyperspaced system) there's no more debris trailing visual effect (until you undock again), although the ship is moving at a greater speed. (No OXPs whatsoever, just standard Oolite)
Either or not this missing Torus-drive-visual-effect after a fuel scoop is an intended feature or not, I think we could use a sound notification for Torus drive going on and off. (there's a sound notification when the Torus drive is going off due to mass lock, but that's the specific sound of mass lock)
sound notification for Jump (Torus) drive?

This is a known problem (though only for some players), and appears to be fixed in trunk (the development version of Oolite).Bothkill wrote:... after you fuel scoop the sun's corona and turn on the Torus drive (either in the same system or in the first hyperspaced system) there's no more debris trailing visual effect (until you undock again), although the ship is moving at a greater speed.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

3. In the aft view, your exhaust trail is red-shifted to invisibility.Bothkill wrote:It's true there are 2 visual indicators showing that Torus drive is operating:

A sound could be very easily scripted, but it would require a frame callback to be running continuously to monitor the speed, and that's not a good idea.
