Selling Large Cargo Bay

Post by ebw »

Hello!

Oolite is great!

Is it possible to sell things you bought to enhance your ship? Like
lasers and large cargo bays and so on ... ?

No, it's not possible. But, then again, why would you do it? The extras don't take any room, so it doesn't matter whether they are there or not.

(IMO, it would, in fact, enhance the game if the extras took a certain amount of room and you had to juggle a bit to figure out the best configuration for your playing style)

The extra large cargo bay, or for that matter other upgrades, can't be sold, but you can downgrade your laser(s). If, for example, you have a military laser, you can buy a lower-level laser for the same position. You will be refunded the difference in value between the military laser and the downgrade. Or at least it used to work that way...
It is generally inadvisable to eject over the target you just bombed.

I view a large cargo bay like the extension on a house. You pay good money to have it built. But you can't sell it. If you want rid of it, you'd have to pay more money to have someone raze it.

Likewise something like an extra energy bank may be 90% installation and integration costs. Were you to pull the components out of the ship, you'd just have some junk for the spare parts market.
Attacking a Navigational Beacon is illegal. Police are on their way.

what about upgrading lasers, when I started with my Cobra Mark III, I had a front beam laser and I wanted to get a military laser I wished I could have moved the beam laser to the port, starboard or the back since I could make the most out of my money, but I clearly could not. Any reason for that? I mean if you are going to put a new laser on you have to take the old one down, why not just move it somewhere else?

When I bought my Python, I made sure it had a military laser on the front already so I didn't waste my money.

As Wombat pointed out above, when upgrading the a laser you are refunded the difference in price between the two... so in your case, simply buy the beam laser after upgrading the front mounting.
