I seem to be in some sort of zoom ooniverse

Post by phonebook »

I'm using a macbook pro and an external thunderbolt display, i have some issues- some have been solved and are elsewhere

however, I don't know if what I'm seeing on the screen is what i am supposed to be seeing- let me explain

we'll put aside full screen for now, and talk about playing in a window. At its smallest possible size, it seems to be a 4 by 3 box- all well and good. The view from the cockpit is what i call 'normal' or if you are boring about these things, the focal length of the diameter of the eye.

BUT

but it allows me to re-size that window in all sorts of ways- i can make it long and thin or short and fat. the view never gets any wider horizontally, but if i make the window tall and thin, i appear to be viewing it in extreme wideangle, I can even see my own laser gun looking like a cobra's pizzle at the bottom of the screen. If on the other hand I make my window short and fat, I don't get a wide screen panorama, rather a pillar box shaped telephoto crop, where the yellow messages disappear.

This makes playing the game in widescreen windows a bit of a kerfuffle, because 1) i rarely see the yellow messages, and 2) gauging when an escape pod or cargo canister is in the correct part of the screen to be scooped- i seem to miss a few these days

Is there a way to zoom in and out? so that I dont have to play in tall thin windows?

Now onto playing in fullscrean mode- it seems a bit zoomed in- like its lopped the top and bottom off to make it the right shape- is there a way to force it to be 4 x 3 in full screen and leaving black sides or something?

One can define a hud that makes better use of the width of the screen. One example can you find in this widescreen topic. A download link can be found in the first message.

And the next release of Oolite will better support the full screen features of a 64 bit mac. (Snow Leopard and newer). To see it in work you can download the nighties (daily new version of Oolite) at the top of these mac pages. At the moment this version should be just as reliable as the 1.76.1 version.

thanks- i'll do that over the weekend.

I spent a good evening last night travelling through galaxy 2, and while i did, I noticed this: when I start oolite, and load up my player, for the first few jumps and exits from stations and hermits, all is well- the yellow messages appear above the HUD and the zoom seems reasonable

however, after a while, those yellow messages teleport to the bottom left hand corner of the HUD (where the missiles are), and only a restart can help

just thought you might like to know- this is a similar sequence of events to the problems i was having with griffs ships, torus stations and other such shady eye candy- that is to say, all well and good for the first few leaps and then the dreaded glitches

Do you have any HUD OXP installed, or are flying a ship with a custom HUD?
