The Logitech Attack 3 is an excellent budget 'stick (I use one), but as mentioned, it's becoming hard to find.
Logitech's Extreme 3D Pro costs a little more, but is also excellent.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Not a bad price... When I bought my Extreme 3D a few years back, the price was something around 30 €(~25£).
It's a good stick, but issues axis-wise are bound to emerge. In my stick, the Z-axis started acting up after a while, X and Y shortly after that. Now I have a 15-20% deadzone on all axes. The stick is also quite light. I had to mount it like this so it would stay put while playing
Word of advice: If you have problems using Logitech Profiler(only way I know of to set the deadzones), try to find version 5.10.127. The newest version of the prog didn't recognize my stick no matter what I did.

Re: Joystick recommendation for Windows 7 64-bit
Ah, now my bloody Extreme 3D went and broke completely. I had to set a 60% deadzone on all axes, quite useless now...
I just ordered a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X, it will probably arrive in early January. From what I've read it's a good, affordable entry-level HOTAS system. Only serious downside seems to be the wire connecting the throttle and joy together. Only 0,5m long, I probably have to make an extension for it...
Does anyone have experience on this stick?

Yes, I used to have one of those.. worked quite well. I eventually gave it to a friend when I had to change to a desk that wasn't really big enough to use it with. The cable joining the two parts is just long enough to put one controller at either end of a keyboard, so it's generally sufficient. If I recall correctly, the throttle cable terminates with a standard 3.5mm stereo plug, so an extension should be easy to do.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

This is a great piece of news... Helps building my scifi cockpit a tad easier.Diziet Sma wrote:If I recall correctly, the throttle cable terminates with a standard 3.5mm stereo plug, so an extension should be easy to do.
Got an inspiration from this thread. I dismantled an old gamepad and rewired the buttons to make a control panel. No Arduino though. More of a hack-job, this one
Cobra Mk. III Cockpit isn't exactly what I'm looking for, looks like an unergonomic office cubical with a joystick(I apologize, puritan Elite fans )...
