Fuel Salvage

While fuel doesn't generally survive explosions, occasionally a tank will be protected by a bulk head or some such. Would be nice to have 1 in 10 or 20 chance of a destroyed ship leaving a scoopable tank (containing ~1ly of fuel). Would be a nice bonus after a 6.8ly jump :-)

A_H was experimenting with such a thing before he got sucked back into his school requirements. Unfortunately due to the scale and ambition of those experiments (many new types of cargo), too much groundbreaking scripting had to be resolved and he ran out of time..

it could be a good idea for him to split it into pieces as just a fuelpods.oxp would be a nice little pack. maybe when he returns..?

Woma transport may release a fuel tank, but it does not seem to be scoopable

that's right. they're quite huge those tanks. really only useful for making explosions.

A_H made some very handsome fuelpods that were just the right size for scooping, and I *think* he figured out how to script the award_fuel right..

Figured it out, but didn't work. :p

So tanks are now total refuels, which I consider a cheat.

But hey: as long as everybody promises to remove and replace when correct pods are available.....

A_H,

When you scoop a fuel pod, (Super cool, and they look great, by the way) why does it not add the now empty canister to your total cargo load.

They seem quite big, and I know that we don't just suck the fuel out of them and then spit them back out into the void.

Along that theory, If you had a full cargo load, shouldn't you have to eject a ton of cargo before you could scoop anything.

Anyway, they are great, I just ran into one after a long jump and what a welcome sight it was.

Nice to hear such high praise for such a half-baked product.

You have a point there michael, the pods should go someplace.
As a matter of fact, they are supposedly just screwed into place by autoloader droids, the 1LY can is quite small and stored in a spare container or a cranny in the hold. Once the ship docks the cans are automatically transferred (like valuables are) to the station reclamation plants. (think camping gaz)

These total refuel tanks are, however, replacement tanks. The old tank is replaced and safely discarded somehow.
Maybe Circus knows more about this...

The superconducter plasma containment and Quirrium-oscillation dampener make that approach a bit expensive.

(Like throwing away your mobile phone, when the pre-payed credit is spent)

Maybe I should explain camping gaz containers?
Quite like butane-flasks, yet less prone to explode when exposed to direct sunlight, Gaz is (IIRC) propane gas. The flasks are recycled for quite a long time.
Everytime a camper returns a flask, he pays for the gaz and swaps the flask for a full one. The empty flask is then tested and refilled at a station.
I chose the Gaz flasks as a model as they are nicely squat, portable, very durable and safe. (unless put into open flame or fired upon with a laser!)

Uhm... I'm going to show off my deep sadness here. Camping Gaz produces both propane and butane bottles... which you use depends on whether or not you're likely to be out in very cold weather. Butane is in blue cans and propane in red ones.

... I'll just sit over here, shall I?...

And hey, I've found some of my best sci-fi books while away camping. Not in a tent, though, Gods no! In a caravan. Warm, cosy, quiet place to curl up with a good book or my laptop...
