I'm glad I could be of service. That Russian site is pretty neat, I think I'll have to run it through google's translator and read it . I think I need to play with the perspectives a bit, but really I'd like something different myself.ClymAngus wrote:Ah, sir you restore an old mans faith in his designs when you post such images as this.
That said, it's not her best angle....
The Russians, god love them. They can do an enigmatic perspective:

We are many, brought together by our appreciation of old games, and a wish to make them just a touch cooler.
Edit: For fun, here's a link to the translated Russian site

I don't think I would install such an OXP, I like that the colour reflects what kind of laser (miner, pulse, beam, military, police, thargoid) is being used.pagroove wrote:Quite a lightshow. Now an oxp that let's you choose a color when you buy a laser.
1.77 looks great. When it is planned to replace 1.76.1?
Edit: Sorry, intended to say: "I would like that the colour reflects what kind of laser is being used." Thanks, Wildeblood, for correction.

Re: Screenshots
No, it doesn't. Laser colour is set in shipdata and is specific to ship type.Gimbal Locke wrote:I don't think I would install such an OXP, I like that the colour reflects what kind of laser (miner, pulse, beam, military, police, thargoid) is being used.pagroove wrote:Quite a lightshow. Re: Screenshots
There is some truth to this, insofar as in vanilla Oolite "civilian" lasers are red, police lasers are magenta, and thargoid lasers are green.Gimbal Locke wrote:I don't think I would install such an OXP, I like that the colour reflects what kind of laser (miner, pulse, beam, military, police, thargoid) is being used.pagroove wrote:Quite a lightshow. It still seems dependent of ship type, rather than of laser type.Commander McLane wrote:There is some truth to this, insofar as in vanilla Oolite "civilian" lasers are red, police lasers are magenta, and thargoid lasers are green.
What I would like is something like red for pulse laser, orange for beam laser, yellow for military laser, yet another colour for mining laser (I think it was something along these lines in Archimedes Elite - but it was 20 years ago that I played that, so I may be mistaken).
I guess this would not be possible without breaking existing things, so it may be better to just ignore me.

Re: Screenshots
I wanted to do this with ToughGuys, but you can only specify one colour per ship (in shipdata), and the problem was when I started giving ships a military laser at the front and beam laser at the back, say. Which colour do you go with? In the end I based the colour on ship type insteadGimbal Locke wrote:What I would like is something like red for pulse laser, orange for beam laser, yellow for military laser, yet another colour for mining laser (I think it was something along these lines in Archimedes Elite - but it was 20 years ago that I played that, so I may be mistaken).

Re: Screenshots
If wouldn't break things, but would require a joint effort of each and every ship OXP writer, because—as Wildeblood wrote—laser colours are assigned to each ship via its shipdata. So you would need to convince all ship designers to follow your colour suggestions for their creations. Which is unrealistic.Gimbal Locke wrote:What I would like is something like red for pulse laser, orange for beam laser, yellow for military laser, yet another colour for mining laser (I think it was something along these lines in Archimedes Elite - but it was 20 years ago that I played that, so I may be mistaken).

The alternative for you is to write an OXP with a shipdata-overrides.plist, where you replace the laser colour of every ship in your Ooniverse with the one you deem appropriate.
This would be relatively straightforward for NPCs, because their original shipdata tell you which type of lasers they use. It's already less straightforward for NPCs with different laser types on different mounts, because all lasers emanating from one ship have the same colour. So you'd have to define let's say the military forward laser colour for this ship, and replace its aft beam laser with an identical one mounted on a subentity, for which you can define a different colour. And so on for the other types. Not impossible, but rather a lot of work.
It gets still more difficult for your player ship. Basically, you'd have to hack its shipdata each time you mount a new laser on one of its positions. And again, if you have different types on the different mounts, you have to replace all but one of them with subentity-mounted variants.
I'd say: it's not worth it.

Re: Screenshots
Although... in trunk you can swap the player ship by script, so you could define 4 versions with different laser colours, and quietly swap the whole ship when the player upgrades their laser. (And if you really wanted to cover all possibilities you'd need 4x4x4x4 versions.) Possibly an interesting exercise but not practical.
Much easier to hack Oolite to hard code a colour for each laser type and ignore the colours defined in shipdata, I would think.

Re: Screenshots
1.77 is not replacing 1.76.1. 1.77 is going to be a non-stable (test) release, with the next planned stable being 1.78. 1.77 and 1.76.1 will both be around together for quite a while.Gimbal Locke wrote:1.77 looks great. When it is planned to replace 1.76.1?
