I've just watched a £500 backer come in on Kickstarter!!!!!!!!! You're over 1/3rd of the way there! Frontier better pull their bloody finger out because I now only want the game to succeed so that you get to write the Novella... This is wrong I know, but I'm getting increasingly frustrated with Frontier's tiny update and lack of info approach!

Who ever the £500 backer is, much respect!

Omigod! A £500 pledge! That passed the one-third mark on the first day!

Honestly, not in my wildest dreams had I imagined this.

Let's see where it ends. And whether in the end it will all come to fruition. Because I'm less and less optimistic about E:D itself.

On the plus side, game or not.

Chances are we'll get a book out of it!

I hope this works, I can't think of a man more deserving to write the novella for a new elite.

Nah, if there's no game, there will be no book either, since the licensing deal will not be there.

And here I was thinking that the largest possible pledge sum should have been 200 pounds or so for a project like this. Well, one lives and learns! :)

Reclamation is now #19 on Kicktraq's hot list.

I think that's quite cool. :D

EDIT: And it's #1 on the "publishing" category list.

How cool is that? 8)

Although, the projection looks just a tad unrealistic.

I have to say... it's pretty cool. Thanks to all the familiar faces on the pledges, gents, I'm in your debt. I will do justice to this if we get past the post.

Those projections are worthless aren't they! I guess they get better with time and more data. There's always a big spike at the start. E:D got 200k of it's current 500k in the first day.

To clarify though, as mentioned by Clym and Wolfwood. No E:D - no novella. My kickstarter gets me the license to write (cue bond music). If I don't get the official license, I've got nothing. That's the aim - the license.

I don't know if there's info on the frontier forms or space sim central. I can't access them at work - could anyone check and write some up if not? I'm after all the promotion I can get right now. :)

Lets write on, Commanders!

Indeed it's 11th as I type! (so far up the chart that I missed it!)

What happens if I successfully raise funds (eg via Kickstarter) for the £4,500 'Writer's Pack' pledge, but then the "Elite: Dangerous" project does not reach its funding level?
Firstly, we are confident that we will reach the funding level. However, in the very unlikely event that the funding level is not met, at the end of the funding period we will be happy to make a deal outside Kickstarter for half the pledge level (ie £2,250), available to all those who have 'Writer's Pack' pledges at the end of the funding period, which will grant all the rights you need, and a license to use the relevant materials and imagery, so the book publishing can still go ahead. This should address the concern about a writer achieving funding via another route (eg from a publisher, or from another Kickstarter project), and ours not succeeding, leaving the potentially difficult situation where the writer cannot deliver on their promise.
David Braben (no less!) has indicated that the license for a piece of Fiction in the Elite universe will be available for £2,250 in the event that E:D fails to meet its goal. Thus, if we're successful here, they'll be a book regardless. I think I got his attention.

Write on, Commanders!

Cheers,

Drew.

Great news so far :D

I have not yet pledged in both projects (E:D and E:Rec) but I intend to do so in early december.

And you could end up in weird situation where if your kickstarter doesn't get to 4,500 but tops 2,250 (which it's looking good to do - the 2,250 beating part I mean) and theirs hits their target, then you'd not have funding to publish which you would have had if they'd failed.

And of course if they miss target by less than 2,250 then it'd get really weird with what could/couldn't be pledged. As you really can't promise them a writers pledge until you've max'd out at 4,500.

Much as I'd like it to, I'm not quite sure I share his belief that E:D will hit target based on where it is now so the whole thing is more likely for me to go the other way. Anyway will look at throwing some cash into the pot next week once I get back from a weekend away (see what I have left!) and also a bit of cross-promotion of the project onto t'other place I mod.

My pledge is in. I just wish I could afford more.

It's great news that DB has acknowledged the possibility of there being official Elite fiction even if ED doesn't make its target. Rest assured that any pledge I make to Reclamation is yours even if ED never happens. :-)

And, as others have said, much kudos to the £500 pledger.
