A dumb question

I have a dumb question, but it happens because I am a newbie.

The reference key for cargo seems to be Shift C.
But as I pass through a cargo pod it gets destroyed.
How do I retrieve it?

First of all, you need a cargo scoop. If you have your first Cobra, there is a scoop installed I think. Second, aim the bottom edge of your crosshairs so it is just above the cargo container. Then you should pick it up when you pass over it.

No, there is no scoop installed as standard, you'll have to save up and buy one...

Oh, and shift-c is for autodocking, when you have a docking computer.

If your ship's cargo hold is full, you cannot scoop anything. There's an excellent guide in the Wiki.
