Empty cargo pods

Post by Disembodied »

An odd event ... I was heading inbound through a Feudal system, offing bad guys and scooping their stuff. I came upon a little trail of cargo canisters, with a lone Anaconda chuffing away from it. By the looks of things, the canisters might have been pooped out by the Annie to try to deflect some attackers. There were no pirates around, though, and no escorts either. So I thought, "A shame to leave these lying," and scooped them up (I had plenty of space in the hold: 26 tons free). I scooped up all five canisters: they all just disappeared as soon as I'd scooped them, and I still had 26 tons of free space.

I'm using 1.76.1. and have a couple of OXPs which might affect dropped cargo: New Cargoes and UPS.

Another one ... this time I saw a Boa poo out a cargo pod in panic under NPC pirate attack. When I went to scoop it, again, nothing. The cargo pod scooped successfully but no cargo was awarded.

Got all turned around, lost my nav connection... Where am I now?

That is deleberate :D . Both CargoWreck as pods.oxp contain this kind of empty pods. But, there you get the message that shows it is deliberate. Disembodied writes nothing about messages. And 5 in a row? It could be an oxp bug with wrong defined pods.

I don't have either of those OXPs, and there are no messages - just the scooping sound/HUD display, followed by the pod disappearing and ... nothing. The only cargo-modifying OXPs I've got are New Cargoes (which doesn't, as far as I know, alter the cargo contents until docking), and UPS. But in both cases it was quite specifically cargo pods which an NPC trader had ejected in (I assume) response to an attack by an NPC pirate. I've not seen it happen under any other circumstances.

Hi. I had a similar problem (probably the same) but it was never resolved. It goes back as far as 1.75.2 (or even earlier). I tried to help narrow it down in terms of OXPs and with 1.76 it was between oolite itself and the OXPs random hits, galactic navy, ups-courier, possibly behemoth, there were a couple of lists of what was installed on different machines exhibiting the problem. See https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8824. Rich.
