Hi everyone . i'm amazed (again)

Post by slimwadey »

Yes you have heard it all before
'I played Elite years ago' etc etc
I DID play years ago and have searched for a decent replacement , how did i miss Oolite ??
No idea, i have been attempting to get various versions of elite running well on my PC for ages with no luck
but with Oolite i can finally see Elite the way i have always wanted to
I have a pretty high spec pc and want to get some seriously gorgeous visuals
the OXP lists are IMMENSE ! So i am searching posts to find a decent concise list of add ons for me
I love the idea of extra side missions too
I cant wait to play more, i have spent all evening just flying about and loving it.. then i discovered i can add oxp's .. there is a god

sorry .. nearly forgot to say hi as well
So Hi all
My name is Steve (slim)
41 years old and an original elite player

Hi and welcome slimwadey my first piece of advice would be to download and install Griff’s shipset and station bundle OXPs as these won't alter the game but will greatly increase the visuals.

Also one of the planet texturing OXPs such as System Redux will also add to the visuals (I'm sure someone else will be along shortly who can give you a more complete list of the planet texturing OXPs available and a list of many other recommended OXPs).

Random hits is also a very popular OXP.

I also have a few OXPs that you can download from my signature strip if these are to your taste. If not don't worry their are literally hundreds of OXPs available.

I hope that you enjoy the game and being part of the Oolite online community.

Thanks for the warm welcome
i have downloaded a few oxp's and will be experimenting with some more
so far i have

System redux
Liners
Customs sounds
Target reticle
Trophy collector

The list to download is mind boggling .. do oxp's ever clash ?
And do you need to restart the game for an oxp to take effect ?

Hi slim, and welcome. It's quite rare for OXPs to clash as we actively try to avoid this, but I suppose with so many something can always go wrong.
Generally I'd suggest starting just with a bit of eye candy, then adding OXPs one at a time to get used to them. And yes, just restart the game as normal when you install a new one.

Advice: keep it simple at first... shipset, system eye-candy (Povray Planets is cool) etc, and get the feel of the game again... but do get [wiki]BGS[/wiki].

Oh... I don't think so... at least, not yet. I think it may go up on Cmdr Cheyd's site soon though. <pages Griff>

Hi, sorry about the bandwidth thing over at box, it doesn't normally get over 10%-15% of it's monthly allowance but i suppose i haven't hosted such a big oxp there before and I'm afraid I don't have it up for download anywhere else (too much of a cheapskate to pay for hosting  )

Already done... see here! But two links are better than one, Gimi... spreads the bandwidth.
