I did do a quick search on this but the results didn't really confirm or deny or really address the possibility, I figured I'd better ask.
It would be very useful for taking external pics of dogfights.
I want to be in the fight, score a hit/something mental happens, then quickly pause the game and use V to get the view I want, O to clear the HUD and then take the pic.
Changing the view back to forward cockpit before unpausing would be an added bonus but not essential.
So is there any way to give the V key "permission" to work while paused?
Where would I find the stuff pertaining to pausing and whatnot in the game files?
If by some bizarre twist of probability nobody has thought about this before... I enthusiastically suggest it for consideration.

Re: Custom Views while paused?
Your request has been added experimentally to trunk in r5441. You can use the customs view key when paused and cycle views normally. There are no messages on the HUD when you cycle in pause, in order to avoid screen clutter. When unpausing, the view returns to the internal view that was current at the time of pause. If you paused while on external views already, then there is no view reset to the external that was current at the time of pause and that's mainly for simplicity's sake rather than anything else.
Note that this is not defined as a feature yet. There might be unforseen consequences involved, but initial testing was quite promising. There is a good opportunity now to test it once it becomes available in tomorrow's nightly. We'll see what the testing results give us and take it from there.

Awesome, this is great news, looks like I'll be trying out the nightly build tomorrow then.

This seems to work fine, and is definitely useful - thanks, Admiral.

Re: Custom Views while paused?
Yes thank you very much indeed it's awesome!
It feels much more intuitive and you're not under pressure to pick your custom view on the fly and take the shot (almost impossible to grab external views in a rolling dogfight using the TAF).
Pausing in the middle of a massive furball and just looking around with all the custom views is also epic.
If you're flying stick (or mouse) you'll prolly have all targeting and weapons mapped to it so in a dogfight you have one hand free to hit P.
If you're flying full console it's even easier (move a finger).
There's still a place in my heart for the TAF as it can be quite cinematic (those furballs become ballet) and would look good in videos when used artfully, but for the "official" 1.77 without TAF I think this is a really useful feature.

I have the snapshot assigned to a 'stick button for taking live-action pics - no pause, flick of the thumb - got it!superbatprime wrote:If you're flying stick (or mouse) you'll prolly have all targeting and weapons mapped to it so in a dogfight you have one hand free to hit P.

I very much like this idea - and hope to see it implemented in the next stable version of Oolite
