Re: [RELEASE] Coluber CPV-9333 Pitviper (V.1.0.0)
Much as I love my new Pitviper Beast, to me the colours were just too bright.. I wanted something dark and menacing.. not to mention I've always wanted to do a custom paint-job.. (looking at these images, I think I might tone down the hatches a little though)
So I played around some in GIMP, and came up with a camo-texture that I call, in the way the military seems to do these things, SPACAM, or Space Camo. I next made a unique OXP-pack for it, so it is available in-game only for me, and the result is my new bounty-hunter after she came out of a little-known respray-shop located somewhere in the Riedquat system . A 3TC cargo extension was added, to bring the carrying capacity up to 12TC, along with a Missile Machine on one of the pylons, so now she always goes into battle carrying 4TC of alloys, 4TC of radioactives, and 4TC of computers, giving her the ability to manufacture an additional 12 hardheads in-flight, in addition to the 8 pylons preloaded with whatever missiles I like.
Presenting, the Blackwidow.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

What's scarier is when you run into a pirate in a Vindicator model of the Pitviper.. I didn't stick around to see how tough he was. Just reading the specs was bad enough..Tichy wrote:Scary!Diziet Sma wrote:Presenting, the Blackwidow.

Too powerful!!?Tichy wrote:Beautyful! I bought a Pitviper Beast yesterday and used it for about an hour. Perfect ship for bounty hunters and killers. Maybe too powerful!
Well, I have to admit that you've got a point there. Blame it on me. I wasn't myself. I have constructed a player-uber-ship and released it to the ooniverse although I have sworn to myself never ever to do that. NEVER EVER! But I just could not resist. And I hope she is only a little bit uber and not too uber.
Wow! Absolutely cool custom paint-job! Well done!Diziet Sma wrote:Presenting, the Blackwidow.
A pirate in a Vindicator model of the Pitviper!? The Vindicator should be available to the riredian navy only, not to pirates, and thus it should only appear in the role of an escort or a bountyhunter. <runs off to look if there is a bug in the .oxp>Diziet Sma wrote:What's scarier is when you run into a pirate in a Vindicator model of the Pitviper.. If there is a bug, leave it. All ships should be pirated - makes the ooniverse more interesting.Captain Beatnik wrote:A pirate in a Vindicator model of the Pitviper!? Those Mega-Asps and "victim 11" escorts told me that, indeed, it wasn't too uber The blew me up often enough to made me rage quit!Captain Beatnik wrote:Too powerful!!?Tichy wrote:Beautyful! I suspect it's because the Vindicator is 'like_shipped' to the 'cb68_pitviper', in which is defined:Captain Beatnik wrote:A pirate in a Vindicator model of the Pitviper!? Code: Select all
ai_type = "pirateAI.plist";
auto_ai = yes;
(looked great, but annoyed me no end.. is nothing sacred? )

Re: [RELEASE] Coluber CPV-9333 Pitviper (V.1.0.0)
I think the problem is not the "ai_type" key, but the "role" key. Seems that the entry in the "role" key of the original ship ist not replaced, but appendixed by the "role" key of the likeship. Using a template without a "role" key should resolve the problem. I`ll test that.Diziet Sma wrote:I suspect it's because the Vindicator is 'like_shipped' to the 'cb68_pitviper', in which is defined:I had those in the Blackwidow's shipdata.plist as well, and found myself up in combat against a pirate in a Blackwidow, even though it shouldn't be available to them, since I made it player only.Code: Select all

Re: [RELEASE] Coluber CPV-9333 Pitviper (V.1.0.0)
That makes sense..
Also, turns out I forgot to remove a temporary testing texture in the core OXP, and change back the name of the original texture, which is why I managed to meet my own ship in combat!
I decided to get rid of the blue nose and tail tips while I was fixing the hatches, and found they still appeared, even though I'd deleted them in the emissions-map as well.. then it occurred to me that the RGB data was still in the EM's alpha-channel! I had to split it into RGBA, remove the blue 'ghost' tips and merge the channels again! All good now.. looks great!

I think it is quite laborious an tricky to change the textures of a ship in GIMP having only the ready merged .png-texture file. To simplify the work for all who want to have a custom painted pitviper, I release the original GIMP .xcf file and the original model under a cc-by-sa-licenese. In the original .xcf-file every part of the Paintwork (eg. airlocks, logos, shadows, hull, hulldetails, the eyes and teeth) is on a separate plane and thus it is much easier to make changes. You may download the sources here:Diziet Sma wrote:I decided to get rid of the blue nose and tail tips while I was fixing the hatches, and found they still appeared, even though I'd deleted them in the emissions-map as well.. then it occurred to me that the RGB data was still in the EM's alpha-channel! That's really nice Dizzie. I've never seen a Tartan ship before!Diziet Sma wrote:Much as I love my new Pitviper Beast, to me the colours were just too bright.. I wanted something dark and menacing.. not to mention I've always wanted to do a custom paint-job.

Mate, that's just legendary! It would be great if more ship-makers did this!Captain Beatnik wrote:I think it is quite laborious an tricky to change the textures of a ship in GIMP having only the ready merged .png-texture file.
