Installing on Win 98.

Post by iamnoname »

Okay, I have it installed. The DOS shell comes up, then the game window appears, then...

nothing.

Is it possible to install on Win 98? Do I need other programs to install with it?

I do not know programming, so please type slowly... :D

Currently not, sadly, because it uses stuff that is incompatible with how W98 works.

But in another topic, there is talk it could eventually work...

There should be a file at C:\Program Files\Oolite\stderr.txt.

It will probably end with a line about not being able to find cobra3_redux.dat. If not, you’ve got a brand new problem.

im not sure what the barriers are to getting it working on Win98 but it did remind me of the Windows 98 Kernel Update project over at the MSFN forums. Maybe an install of this plus the unofficial Service Pack will help...

I have tried to run Oolite-PC on Windows 98 Kernel Update project. No luck. :(
