You know, you're probably right, I'm sure there are still companies using Win95 - but, really, how sad it that ? ? ?

Shame they never really fixed DOS. I thought that wasn't too bad if a bit psychotic. '95 had a little database in which it kept a list of installed accessories which was why it was able to list them instantaneously. When we went to 98 that had disappeared and it said 'searching...'. Made me laugh. Largest IT employer! How come the footprint had grown yet there was less functionality? Risible really. Then of course there was the centennial compliance issue that MS tried very hard and succeeded in labelling 'millennial compliance'. By and large they created the problem! Blummin spreadsheets - and they released that crap 2 years prior to the millennium roll-over towards which they were pointing and shouting about compliance.

Then there was the whole 'MS-OS compatible' campaign. When you see what hardware that isn't MS compatible can do why would you want that? I estimate that's one of the things that bit them in the arse. They become so lazy what with hardware manufacturers jumping thru hoops to fix holes in the OS at the firmware level that their code won't run on anything that isn't specifically designed for their OS.

You know, you're probably right, I'm sure there are still companies using Win95 - but, really, how sad it that ? ? ?

I know companies that are still using home-brew software that was made before(!) Windows 3.1, although it actually runs on XP machines. But still—just the look of those input-masks-that-pretend-to-be-windows makes me sick.

Sounds even worse than Google Earth's default libraries, which make GE look like a recycled Win95 app, however, there's a fun tweak to do to make it look more native to Ubuntu/Mint/Debian (though I bet that the tweak would work for any distro).
