Hi there. Some of you might recognise me from the chatroom as the bloke who creeped everyone out with a sample line from an Oofic that is much, much less creepy in context...
Anyway, I spotted a drifting cargo pod and decided to investigate its contents, venting one cannister to make room for whatever it might be. I scooped it and, holy trumbles, it's 10kg of gold! Result! But when I tried to scoop the pod I'd vented to make room... "The cargo hold is now full." I think there's a problem here.

Hi Jake
No problem there, really. Assuming you started with 1t of cargo available (after venting one pod to make space), you scooped a 1t cargopod which contained 10kg of gold. That's fine, but now your cargo hold is indeed full because there is a 1t cargopod there containing 10kg of gold. The 10kg will not be moved out of the cargopod and the cargo hold until you dock at a station. This is how it has always worked and I believe it makes more sense this way rather than having 10kg of gold in a pod somehow magically being moved out of it and having the pod itself disappearing from existence.

When you leave a dock, your goods are packaged into a finite number of cargo pods. Small amounts of gold/platinum/gem-stones don’t need a pod (think of them as going in the safe), but when you scoop a pod with gold you keep that pod until you dock again and your goods are repackaged. (If you eject the gold pod, it will be the very same pod that you scooped, which makes a difference if you’re using OXPs that alter pod appearance.)
This does raise the question of why other captains carry 10 kg of gold in a pod instead of putting it in a safe, though…

Hi Jake,
The others have answered your question, I think. When can we expect your 'creepy' Oofic then?

Maybe the "safe" is a cargo pod bolted to the bulkhead inside the ship?Ahruman wrote:This does raise the question of why other captains carry 10 kg of gold in a pod instead of putting it in a safe, though…
It would make more sense, I suppose, for all salvaged gold, platinum and gems to be found inside a ship's safe, which could occasionally survive the explosion ... maybe time to reprise Griff's (heartrending) fridge?
Of course, players would know that such an item would be potentially very valuable, but if it only came along once in a while ... ?
