Introduce myself (right on!) and What about Elite Plus?!?

Post by AliothYoungDudes »

Hi, just thought I would say hello to you all. I am a keen Elite player from the games birth town of Cambridge, UK. I have been playing Elite in various forms since about 1986 when my parents bought me an Acorn Electron and I have been hooked ever since.

I have noticed that there is a lot of coverage for classic versions of Elite within the Wiki site but, as far as I can see, there is no mention of Elite +, This was the version that reignited my love affair with Elite - I started playing this when I was about 17 so, I had just discovered girls and certain illicit substances that would get you an "Offender" tag in most star systems. The next few years were a blur - not because of girls, booze and narcotics but because I had become hooked again on my first love - Elite.

Yes, I know Elite + was flawed, combat was far too easy (crazy Ivans galore or, just ram the sucker) but it was colourful and it was fun. I believe that it was also one of the first games to have a security system that required a word to be entered from the manual (nerd fact).

I still have a copy of Elite + on my laptop so, If it is okay with you guys, I'd like to add it to the Wiki pages, just for completion (unless I am being totally blind or naive and can't see it on the site or that I was the only person to ever see the game as being canonical.)

Many thanks :)

Yep, just a little - but I hammered that game for a few years, and still have it on my HDD (and I still have the original 3.5 floppy complete with manual, Imprint etc).
As for it being canonical - possibly some of it is, and Selezen does make slight use of Imprint in his Elite Timeline. However, canon is a personal thing.

Welcome aboard, AYD!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

According to the [wiki]Main Page[/wiki] Elite+ is (or should be) covered in the "Classic Elite" section. So if you have things to add about it, that's where they can go. (Which means that any new pages should be given a 'Category:Classic' tag.) There are already pages about some of the classic versions listed on the index page, but indeed none about Elite+, as far as I can see. So feel free to create one. :)
