[RELEASE]MandotechHeavyHaulers
This is my attempt at combining several of my biggest ships into one oxp package. The ships in this package include Ankalagon, BattleBarge, Diamond, Elbereth, Genesis, Megaladon, Slug, Snapper, StarMoth, Terra, Troller (more on this one down further), UHU, and Ventura. The loads these ships haul vary from 45 tons, to 600 tons. Some are nearly imposible to dock with a Space Station except with docking computers. It can be done manually, but only by the very experienced pilot. Most of the ships, however, are not difficult to dock with the Station on manual at all. All of these ships but the Terra, and the Troller have been released as individual oxps. Some of them I took back into Blender (the older releases especially) and applied some finishing tricks I've learned since I made them. Pretty much all the ships are balanced very well, now.
The Troller is a mining ship. It's not fast, or powerful, but has a huge body for hauling ore, gases, and fuel. It comes standard with a mining laser at the front, and should be able to work in tandem with any other mining ship. Maybe you could even establish your own Rock Hermit. After all is said, and done, though, it can also be used a trading ship, as it does carry 85 tons of cargo.
The Terra is a trade ship/attack ship/hunter ship/pirate ship. It can carry a max of 60 tons of cargo, but it's fairly slow at 250LM max. However, it has a max energy of 400, and an energy recharge rate of 5.5, most of which goes into it's five ball turrets. One small turret in the nose, one on each side, and two in the back. It also has forward, and aft lasers.
Corrected errors in references to the SunBat-escort, as well as reduced the max speed on some of the big ships, because the Oolite Core doesn't allow any ship with only "trader" as the role to go faster than 300.

You've got a good selection of ships here Mandoman. Good work

Thanks ShipBuilder. I just hope I don't start finding all kinds of bugs in this one, like I did the SunBatComboPack.oxp after I released it. That was a bit of a nightmare for a while.

An OXP release is no fun if it's not a nightmare!mandoman wrote:I just hope I don't start finding all kinds of bugs in this one, like I did the SunBatComboPack.oxp after I released it. That was a bit of a nightmare for a while.
Nice collection and although all quite different, all your ships have definitely got a recognisable Mando-style.

Yeah, they are all pure Mandotech, quircky, weird, what ever.
Yeah, for over a year, but now I'm using Fuduntu. Ubuntu changed to there "upgraded" Gnome 3 style, and I hated it. I was still using their last version of Gnome 2 when I received an announcement in my e-mail from the "Linux Community Forums Board" about Fuduntu. It has proven to be every bit as good as Ubuntu, with no end to updates, and no switching to "Unity". Fuduntu is everything Ubuntu use to be, and could still be, if they hadn't abandoned Gnome 2. Sorry, onno256, but that is a loaded subject for me.onno256 wrote:Hey Mandoman,

Hey Mandoman,
I have been an Ubuntu-user since Hardy Heron (8.04), and did make the recent switch to Unity.
It took some getting used to, but works fine for me.
However; there was really nothing wrong with Gnome

<continue thread derailment...>
I've used Ubuntu since Lucid, and am now stuck on Natty as I really don't like the Unity interface. Even more I really, really don't like the way they've decided I only need four desktops! I regularly use six, so I'll stay with Natty as long as I can, then maybe look at a different distro unless they wise-up.

Re: [RELEASE]MandotechHeavyHaulers
Have you checked out Fuduntu 2012? It's very stable, and though it doesn't have quite as many apps. along with the distro itself (games, etc.), you can easily get those apps on-line for free. I didn't like Fuduntu's desktop setup, but that wasn't a big deal as they have it so you can make your desktop however you want it to look. I think even like a Windows desktop. I was a little nervous loading it up, at first, but the Fuduntu forums have been extremely helpful, and I'm about as comfortable with it as i was with Ubuntu 10.10. In fact, I have it looking, and acting just like Ubuntu 10.10, except slight changes in Administrative Commands. I would still be using Ubuntu 10.10 if I hadn't stumbled onto Fuduntu. It's based on Fedora, but it is so much it's own distro now, that trying to use it like Fedora won't work. It looks like Ubuntu, but leans more towards Fedora at the root. I guess it doesn't matter to my, so long as it stays stable (which it has for over a month now), and I keep getting updates from Fuduntu Canonical. .

Yeah, I kind of have a fever for it. I think ShipBuilder has the same thing. I don't know as they are any good, though some seem to like them, but I keep getting new ideas, and I love to work with Blender.onno256 wrote:<back to thread>

You can still use Ubuntu and not run Unity. All you need to do is install a different desktop environment. There's no need to change distro. In fact, you could even install gnome-panel, then choose the GNOME Classic session at login, and then you should have the same sort of set up that you were used to with 10.10. Or you could pick one of the many others that are out there!
Re: [RELEASE]MandotechHeavyHaulers
I tried that. I had Ubuntu 11.10 installed for a couple of weeks, and like you said I had it looking, and kind of acting, like Ubuntu 10.10. One huge problem kept coming to the surface, though. Applications, such as Blender, ran super slow, so when I went to unwrap an object, and texture it, the process nearly froze the whole computer. Also, Oolite kept crashing for no apparent reason. I don't know what is different about Unity, but it did NOT work well on my 64 bit system, and I had installed the version for 64 bit systems. It got so bad that, in disust, reinstalled 10.10, and was immediately informed that it was no longer supported. That didn't impress me at all, but at least my computer was running well again, and I was using apps. with out slowing, or crashing the machine. Then I received an e-mail notice from the Linux Forums about a knew, completely stable distro, based on a mixture of Fedora, and Ubuntu, called Fuduntu. At first I didn't trust what I was reading, so I went to the Fuduntu forums and started reading the posts. One theme was consistant, Fuduntu is an awesome distro. So I went back to the Linux Forums, to the thread that introduced Fuduntu 2012, and asked point blank if Fuduntu was as stable as Ubuntu 10.10. The overwhelming response was yes, it is. I am now one of those that will say the same thing. Fuduntu has stayed with the old Gnome 2 kernel, and is only updating it, not changing it into something else, like Unity. I know this is a long answer, but unless Fuduntu starts behaving really weird, I doubt I'll go back to Ubuntu.Mauiby de Fug wrote:You can still use Ubuntu and not run Unity. Re: [RELEASE]MandotechHeavyHaulers
What is Linux about if not freedom of choice!? If it's working really well, stick to it.mandoman wrote:I know this is a long answer, but unless Fuduntu starts behaving really weird, I doubt I'll go back to Ubuntu.
The computer I'm on won't run Unity at a usable pace at all, but I'm quite happy with Lubuntu - Ubuntu using LXDE instead of GNOME, and with some different default applications. Lightweight, faster, and nicely customisable. I quite like the Launcher in Unity, so I use DockbarX to replicate that, but I could never stand the Dash, and to be honest, it didn't do anything much more than Synapse or Kupfer at the time anyway (now, though, the HUD looks rather useful). I also wasn't a fan of hiding the application menus.
GNOME 2 is no longer maintained. So it made sense for Ubuntu to move to GNOME 3. And they weren't happy with GNOME Shell, so they made their own shell, which was Unity. But many many people out there still prefer the old GNOME 2 way of working. Two things that I know of which were made as a result of this are MATE, which is a fork of the old GNOME 2 code base, and Cinnamon, which is Linux Mint's fork of GNOME Shell. And of course there are the many others which were around before, such as LXDE, KDE, Xfce etc.
