New Commander

Post by Fatleaf »

With all the new wonders implemented I am going to scratch an itch I have been having for a while now. My usual commander is an all out bad ass bounty hunter that seeks the biggest fights going and jumps regularly into interstellar space so he can have a right royal barny. I have installed nearly every hard pirate I could find and loved Smivs' Tough Guys to really mix things up.
But I wanted a change of character and so jumped into an Adder and started again but the trouble with that is I didn't really change anything else and all I found myself doing was the same as before only in an inferior ship and didn't really scratch the itch.

SO!

This time I have started with a brand new install of Trunk. I am only going to install eye candy Maybe UPS (but don't take the combat missions). But definitely Explorer's Club. No extra ships. I want a pure clean game.
I will start off with an Adder with a passenger berth, injectors, fuel scoop and 100 credits. Nothing else and just cruse the lanes with good reading material.

Looking forward to it.

Heh... it's a fine boat, is the Adder! Are you starting-off with a pulse laser?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Nothing else than what is already stated.

>Fatleaf is imagining the recoil effect on an Adder!!! He goes for it anyway <
But only once he can afford one that is!

Aye, the railgun ain't too cheap - but it's a 'fair' weapon, as every slug costs money (and energy), and it can get damaged!

Not a "pure clean game" is it?

But yeh, there is a lot to be said for getting back to basics.

The only real break is giving the player Adder an extra three tons of cargo bay space. Which isn't really a cheat as the NPC starts with five tons cargo capacity so all I'm doing is bug fixing.
You start off with a Cobra III, sell it buy the equipment and your still left with a hang more than one hundred credits. The addition of UPS and explorers club only add ambiance and doesn't change the core game at all. So it is very close to being pure.

In Switeck's Shipping OXP, player Adders start with 2 TC capacity but can get a 3 TC Cargo Bay expansion for 5 TC total...good luck playing long enough to get it, especially since you only start with 0 or 100 credits depending on which savegame you start with.

BAH!

Back in my day we played in Strict mode, and WE LIKED IT. Why I remember the time when it was just me, a pulse laser, and two Asps. None of this fancy 'injectors' or that silly 'scanner targeting enhancement' nonsense. Back then missiles could be countered with a good pop of the ECM. Heck we were THANKFUL just to be able to get in and out of an Anarchy system. Now you kids want your 'Galactic Navies' and your 'Random Hits' I swear, If I had to change a diaper for all the so called 'pilots' crying for variety. As if that builds character! You know back then, if someone mentioned a 'turret' you'd look at them funny, and tell them to go fly in that FFE sector. Now we got friggin turreted monstrosities that look like a unicorn vomited all over them! 'Rainbow' I'd like to meet the soul who decided the Cobra Mk. III wasn't good enough!

Kids nowadays. I swear.

I'm really liking my "back to basics" game. Very few oxp's nearly all eye candy. And the only extra ships are S9's Chopped Cobra's. I installed the sniper lock as with the keyboard the Adder is far too twitchy and almost impossible to combat with. I am a passenger boat with a military laser!
