I was flying around with weapons offline (_ key by default) and being annoyed at the glitchy rendering of the selected missile, and concluded that it doesn’t make sense to have a selected missile with weapons online.
Proposed changes:
With weapons offline, all missile icons should be drawn in semi-transparent green with no outline.
The Target Missile key should behave like the Ident key. (This is important on joysticks or gamepads where buttons are at a premium.)
Missile selection and target state should be remembered while weapons are offline, even though they’re not rendered.
Any objections?
(Also, because I just got a joystick with a scroll wheel, key_next_target and key_previous_target totally need to be joystick-assignable.)
The Target Missile key should behave like the Ident key.
Missile selection and target state should be remembered while weapons are offline.
On further consideration, these two aren’t really compatible, because ident safes all missiles. Safing all missiles when turning weapons offline seems entirely reasonable to me anyway.
Weapons offline (_) is different from missiles safe (u). With weapons offline, you can’t fire lasers or missiles/mines, but as it stands you can set missile targets.
After making the changes yesterday, it feels more like a bug fix than a behaviour change.
“Weapons offline” now implies “missiles safe”.
With weapons offline, the Target missile (t) button now works like Ident (r), its closest non-weapon equivalent. The Safe missile (u) button disengages ident just like it does in weapons-online mode if no missile is targeted. Missile select is disabled.
