My first attempt at a Gas Giant
I suddenly feel really sad to have been born so early in the days of space travel that we have only ever seen 3 real gas giants.

Meanwhile, you can produce as many of those as you like. :-)

They're very pretty, gas giants:

Is it possible to have planets with rings similar to the screenshot in SandJ's 3rd link above ?

Also planets with large electrical storms would look great and add some more variety.

Maybe if the ring was assigned as a subentity, but I don't think planets support subentities. The problem with rings are that they are essentially rocks and dust floating around the planet. To produce this in Oolite, you'd have to spawn about 300,000 asteroids around a planet in a ring shape, which would probably cause some loading issues on slower machines.

Its a shame really, there was a game called Klingon Academy that let you fly into Planet Rings and it was pretty cool. This would be a good idea if it is possible! :D

There was some discussion (and a test example, I think) about an artificial planetary ring here (not rocks and dust, though).
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Ok, i've finally finished an initial release for System Redux Replacement Textures

Just unzip the two files and copy/paste the contents into your System Redux textures folder (I would recommend backing up system redux textures before doing so)

You will need a fairly decent set-up to run these textures as the files are rather large

Please take screenshots if you find any errors...I've tried to check them but I may have missed something...I will fix and upload a new download for any errors reported

Pt1 download http://jumbofiles.com/sr4zw4s832yl

Pt2 download http://jumbofiles.com/7krqc8btu60l

I have had to split this into 2 downloads due to the sizes of the files....just over 1 gig in total
Does anybody have copies of these?
