Which Space Wormholes

Post by MtKlima »

Hi all, just wondering.

Frequently, when I have no pressing space business, and don't really care where I turn up next, I join a convoy or just a single vessel as they are leaving the station and ride along until I get the free trip through the big blue witchspace wormhole.

Today, because I had pressing space business, I used my Galactic Hyperdrive. Then I started thinking. Is there a reason why I did not just leave a wormhole? Why simply anyone could just walk right into this Galaxy.

I'm not saying that it should happen, but I would certainly change my navigation stratagies if there was even a 1 in 100 chance that entering a someone else's wormhole would take me to a new galaxy, especially if my pressing space business wasn't finished in, say, Galaxy 2 yet.

Any theories out there?
Thanks, Michael

A very interesting concept. Perhaps this should go in Suggestions?

If there were such wormholes, I'd think that they should look different from the normal ones...

I would suggest that they could actually add a certain level of mischief to the game - especially if they were left to look the same, since:

A) it might leave OXP'ers more scope for sudden surprises - i.e. the player hammers "bad guy X", as per contract... who promptly retreats through a wormhole - upon which our plucky commander pursues said felon, expecting to emerge at some nearby star... only to find - "where the 'fsck' am I, now!?
B) If wormholes have any reality (and are visible) they're essentially the same, no matter how far they reach in "real" space (assuming such a concept as "real space" had any real meaning, on a lightyear scale: and, yes, I know - arguing points of real physics in a game theat assumes faster then light travel is possible, is a bit of a moot point, but still... :) )
And so I gave myself to God. There was a pregnant pause before He said "OK"

I'm all for adding mischef into into the game. I keep pulling up directly in front of folks right before jumping into witchspace and try to suck them into the wormhole. But those plucky Anaconda pilots never get fooled.

Not tried this trick yet! Anything I should be wary of when borrowing a wormhole? I assume it uses no fuel?

Nothing major to be aware of, just that you have no way of telling where you will end up.

And no, it doesn't use any fuel.
