I use the system-wide install, as that is the recommended configuration, and I've never got it to work in the Home directory anyway

I originally had a system-wide installation but could never find anything, so re-installed from scratch in my home area (whereupon I discovered it came with documentation) and have done so ever since.

I think he was trying to do a home directory install whilst logged in as root (as opposed to using sudo) - that may be confusing things.
My OXPs via Boxspace or from my Wiki pages .
