In an actual functional design, the cargo pods would be added as frangible subentities. I'm sure scripting can be done to have a pod "separate" from the main hull if one is hit.

Assuming the pods are about 2m in length (cue scaling argument), the ship wouldn't be that big, and should fit in a station.

BTW, I christened the model the Chelonian-class - because the front end looks a bit like a turtle's head.

This would make an excellent freighter perhaps to escort as a mission or simply for raiding parties to take out and plunder! Either way would be good to have it in the game.

If the pods are about 2m in length, the ship would be about 12m x 6m x 6m, about twice the size of an escape pod.

10m length would roughly match the size of the pods floating around as loose cargo, and imply about 60x30x30 size - about as big as a Moray, though a very different shape.

Either way, no problems fitting it into the dock.

Am I allowed to say that the earlier ship looks like a fancier version of the [EliteWiki] Orca and the latter a more cog-like variant on the [EliteWiki] Conger, both from [EliteWiki] Aquatics OXP? ;)

You're allowed to say anything you like.

And the Orca looks nice. I shall add it to my version of Aquatics.oxp. :)

I've done some tweaking to the Chelonian model and tidied it up a bit. I'll not have time or resources to do the scripting or texturing of the ship, but I feel that someone out there could do a far better job of it than I could anyway (what with shaders and all).

I've uploaded the model to my webspace, so if someone feels like a little project please feel free to take it on.

The file can be downloaded here

Lol it could be artistic design though? I mean, there is a Renault car in real life that has a bum on it, why can't this ship has a wart on its nose? Meant to also say brilliant looking design though, can't wait for it to be released!

I wasn't meaning to accuse you (or anyone else) of doing so. I just thought it funny that two designs coming in this thread are similar to my existing ones. But then at least with the Orca it was supposed to be "form and function over beauty" given that it's a military ship (similar to the Vortex in philosophy), and so perhaps not so unlikely that similar designs come from the similar root idea.
