Help Needed Loading Commander

Post by Bazza »

Hi. I discovered Oolite about a month ago, and it's brought back fond memories of playing Elite on the old Amiga. I'm currently flying a Cobra 3 in Galaxy 3 and rated Deadly. Thanks to all concerned for keeping this classic game alive, and you've made an old Elite fan very happy.

However...

I'm having problems loading from the Load Commander screen. I've somehow managed to get into a directory of my C drive, which shows as a list of folders beneath the 'Commander Name' heading. I've tried all the function keys; but can't get back to my list of saved Comanders. I've tried reloading the game and even rebooted the PC, but can't get them back. I'm sure a combination of keys will do it; but I've no idea which ones. Help!!!!!!!

Hi Bazza and welcome to the board. You want to press Ctrl+Return to open a directory. oolite-saves is the directory you're looking for, it's under C:\Oolite\oolite.app from a Windows PC (if you installed to the C: drive).

Blimey, that was quick! Thanks, Pleb, I suspected it might be something like that; but I didn't want to risk messing anything up. Appreciate the help. Now off to find some pirates and blow them up.

And welcome to the Friendliest Board this Side of Riedquat™. (I didn't get that until I actually noticed the forum's logo last night. )

Not hanging about then!

Out of curiosity, what version are you playing?

Also, have you got any feedback after a month's playing?

I'm playing 1.76.1 with CB Hud Mk2, Ironhide 2, Target Autolock and Target Reticle1.2.1. Also PAGroove Stations and SSD4 Replacement Ships for the eye candy.

It's everything I remember from the old Elite and more. Lots of nice new stuff to put in the ship - Witchdrive Fuel Injectors are essential for dogfighting - and manual docking with the station is easier than I remember, the nav beacons certainly help there. I can see myself playing this for years.

Is Thargoid another board member? Should I change to another Marvin?

Indeed... Thargoid previously had a 'Marvin' as his avatar.

Lol I don't see why they can't be more than one Marvin running around the forums! I keep meaning to hange my avatar to look like my own Griff Cobra III as mine is much more blue and has a great big middle finger in place of the pirate decal that is normally there! :D (I will of course make sure the middle finger is not visable as not to offend anyone  )
