Proposed - Massive Ship for Hitching
I've docked with a few ships like the Famous Planets liners and a Galactica, and on occasion have managed to skip making a jump because the liner had jumped before I launched. Could a dockable big ship be created with an itinerary, letting you know if you've reached a certain system?
I imagine this ship would be serving a purpose along the lines of a mascot and backup of sorts for Jamesons. At least provide a brief port in a storm.
Another feature could be an automatic launch for a pre-scripted pirate or Thargoid attack, requiring you to beat the attack back in order to keep your big friend from becoming a big explosion. Perhaps a ferrying run in a certain system between you and your destination, taking passengers to a station or, if you have the gear, a planet? Maybe even just a way to dock with a liner and keep track of any jumps made while you're docked.
If I had a single clue about script, I'd modify an existing ship for this. As it is, I'm just a fresh pilot... Any takers?

Got all turned around, lost my nav connection... Where am I now?
Re: Proposed - Massive Ship for Hitching
I know you can dock with some ships in interstellar space and when you launch you're in the nearest system...but I don't think you can make the ship you're docked in go anywhere else. Of course, I may be wrong...

Re: Proposed - Massive Ship for Hitching
I think I mistyped. The liner wouldn't be controlled by you. You would simply be in the liner as it went about its interstellar travels. And I think my liner-jump can be confirmed by other sources. I got the idea somewhere...

Re: Proposed - Massive Ship for Hitching
I did understand what I mean is that your ship can dock with another ship in interstellar space and when you launch you and the ship you docked with will be in normal space, but this is more of a glitch I thought, as script can be used to make it so the ship you dock with stays in interstellar space. Although I could be wrong...Rese249er wrote:I think I mistyped. The liner wouldn't be controlled by you. You would simply be in the liner as it went about its interstellar travels. Re: Proposed - Massive Ship for Hitching
Um... I was in normal system space when I docked and launched into another normal system. No interstellar space involved.
EDIT: Maybe a better way to implement this idea would be a sort of long-term fighter escort contract. A big beaten-up independent ship could always use a hand.

It could be you've discovered a bug in the code somehow, as I was under the impression this was not possible. Of course if it is it opens up many new possibilities!Rese249er wrote:Um... This is definitely possible, there are many similar OXPs to this affect, although I do not believe any involve following larger ships, such as a liner or capital ship. This could be a good angle to start a new OXP!Rese249er wrote:EDIT: Maybe a better way to implement this idea would be a sort of long-term fighter escort contract. Eh? Typo fix counts as Javascript lessons?

I think SandJ's point is that Lesson One is to know which language to use...Java and javascript are different beasts, and Oolite uses javascript.

Flashback to (actually short, but seemingly) interminable exchanges on ciwas about whether it's spelt JavaScript or Javascript or javascript, and just wishing one could reach through teh interwebs and throttle people while screaming "We're supposed to be discussing CSS, not bloody XavaXcript!".Smivs wrote:I think SandJ's point is that Lesson One is to know which language to use...Java and javascript are different beasts, and Oolite uses javascript.

*shrug* I don't care what it's called, just learning how to use it.
