Hello all Oolites comanders!
I'm new to ubuntu and new to this forum, but I played "elite" a long time ago. So, I became found of Oolite, as well! I have the 1.75.3 version running all right here, and I wish to upgrade it to the newst version... I downloaded the package from the Oolite site, it's the Oolite 1.76 tgz file. How can I install it here? Thanks in advance, for any help.

Hi marcusrg, and welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.
Extract the tgz file, and you will get a file called oolite-1.76.1.linux-x86.run. Double click it and you will get a prompt to 'run in terminal', 'display', 'cancel' or 'run'.
Go for how your current install is.
If you have it in your home directory the install should run automatically. Hit 'run' and a terminal will open and the install will start. You will be prompted as to whether you want to run 'system wide' or in your home directory. Choose home directory and you should be good to go.
If your install is system wide, open the terminal, change to the folder where you downloaded the file to (e.g. cd Desktop) and run as superuser Enter your password when prompted and it should all work from there.

Code: Select all
sudo ./oolite-1.76.1.linux-x86.run

Or quicker, go to a terminal and just type
If I remember well that works from 1.75.3 onwards (if not then follow Smiv's advice to reinstall the 1.76.1 tarball).
sudo oolite-update

Ok, friends, the first advice worked fine. Now I have the newst Oolite in my ubuntu and running fine! The second advice, the sudo run oolite-update did not work, unfortunately... but I did as the first one said and it went normal.
Thanks for you good help, directly from the 5th galaxy, docked at Geonby! Got to get back to Galaxy 2, soon. Thanks again!
