Oolite v1.76.1 removed by Norton 360 "suspicious activity"

Post by JazHaz »

I just tried to run the new v1.76.1 only to have Norton 360 anti-virus quarantine it due to "suspicious activity". Had to create an exception for Oolite in Norton!

Maybe you could start a Kickstarter Campaign to found your £4500 pledge. 8)
Thanks to Gimi, I got an eBook in my inbox tonight (31st May 2014 - Release of Elite Reclamation)!

Sounds to me like it's time to get a real antivirus program, instead of Big-Corp bloatware..

I recommend Avast! AV free edition. Consistently out-scores Nortons, too..

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I will reserve my opinion for Norton antivirus due to not having anything particularly good to say about it. It is verified that it also has problems with the nightly build installers, for reasons known only to itself.

All I can say is that, as always, all Windows binaries uploaded to the servers for release are tested for viruses prior to being uploaded using McAfee VirusScan with latest DAT definitions.

I use the AVG free anti virus myself and though it is responsible for the bulk of my boot time, It has never had a bad word to say about Oolite :)

Update: virustotal.com, using 42 distinct scan engines reports zero findings on the Oolite installer ( https://www.virustotal.com/file/9677efe ... 338206872/ ), as well as the Oolite executable itself ( https://www.virustotal.com/file/d018e9d ... 338207323/ ).

I have the same problem with Nortons and Oolite (it was only the trunk nightlies, but now it doesn't like the release version - hey-ho!), but I have no complaints about Nortons Internet Security in general... I like it! The OEM version is very good value!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Maybe a disgruntled (female) employee of Symantec who happens to be the partner/wife/girlfriend of someone who plays Oolite had something to do with this?

Is that occum's razor? :P
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.
