Deadzone on xbox controller

Post by Cody »

On SSC, there is a question in the Oolite subforum:
Anyone know how to put some deadzone on controller sticks? Am using a xbox 360 controller with "xbox360 wireless receiver for windows"
Any ideas, anybody?

This article would seem to be what you're looking for..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Thanks Diz... I'll pass that on to Overlord at SSC.

I had this problem with OOlite and my wired XBox controller in windows. I ended up recompiling with a bigger deadzone, but this utility would seem to be a better solution.

I suspect I will have similar problems when i try to set it up on my macbook.

Whilst researching another controller problem, I came across another Windows utility which apparently also allows xbox controller deadzones to be adjusted. (as well as all the buttons, and some fancy tricks, such as auto-fire, different assignments for tap or hold, mouse movements, speed, etc)

It's called Xpadder, and it supports some 835 different controllers and joysticks.

It's not free, but is cheap, at US$9.99/£5.99, which includes free lifetime updates. By comparison, the Pinnacle Game Profiler, which I linked to above, costs US$24.99. Xpadder also has an active support forum.

I'm very tempted to get this and try it.. looks as if it might even be able to extend the functionality of my Saitek Cyborg Evo stick beyond what Oolite normally allows..

Edit to add: I purchased it, and it does indeed let me assign a whole lot more functions to my joystick.. more than the Mad Catz profiler software which came with my 'stick, in fact.. a very useful program.. Once I get the hang of driving it, I may do a write-up.
