Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Clue the third: the old boat once sailed on CaptSolo's patch... a long, long time ago!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Book is, Ancient Shores by Jack McDevitt.
Reference to "CaptSolo's patch" signifies the setting for this work as my home state of North Dakota. The boundary between that and neighbouring Minnesota is the Red River, which flows north, emptying into Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. At the end of the last ice age, some 10k years ago, as the glaciers began receding, the ice sheet blocked the normal drainage creating Lake Agassiz. It was named after Louis Agassiz, a Swiss scientist who found evidence of ancient shores.
I think I've said enough as one who finds other lands more interesting. For me it is the British Isles.
My turn, huh?

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
This should not be too hard so my first clue is: The death bringer came from the sky. Title and author, please?

Nice try, Disembodied, but incorrect.
Second Clue: All perished quickly, save an old man and a baby.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Third clue, and this should do it: The bringer of death came from outer space and was "Scooped".

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
OK: name the novella (and accompanying collection of short stories) which takes its title from an extract from the Book of Job (specifically, from the King James Bible version).

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Maybe I should narrow things down a little: the name is taken from the Book of Job, Chapter 41, but is not a direct quote.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
I'm not going to read the Book of Job, or even one section of it, but it must be something to do with Leviathan or Behemoth?
