Fast launch
I carried my laptop through to another room with the game in 'Paused' mode, and fear I pressed one or more keys in the process. Ever since, I've been coming out of the launch tube like a bat out of hell (though docking is at normal speed). Can anyone tell me how to get back to normal, please?

Re: Fast launch
Interesting thought, Captain, but wouldn't the whole game be speeded up if that was the case? It's just the launch sequence that appears fast -- everything after that is at normal speed.Capt. Re: Fast launch
Press shift-F and see what is says TAF is set to. You may have an OXP that changes it on launching.Albee wrote:Interesting thought, Captain, but wouldn't the whole game be speeded up if that was the case? It says TAF: x1.00Capt. Murphy wrote:Press shift-F and see what is says TAF is set to. You may have an OXP that changes it on launching.
It can't be the OXPs, though, as I've temporarily removed them all whilst attempting to troubleshoot this problem. This is happening with a brand new Jameson at Lave.
I'm tempted to download Oolite 1.76 again to see if that will fix it.

Re: Fast launch
No idea what is causing your problem, but what you suggest above (a clean install) can often work... I have done this myself before.Albee wrote:I'm tempted to download Oolite 1.76 again to see if that will fix it.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Fast launch
Note that the launch sequence tunnel is normally faster than the docking one by design and launch speed is half of the ship's max speed. Maybe there is no problem there at all, or you just bought a new faster ship recently and just noticed the difference?
Re: Fast launch
Sorry guys -- I'm wasting everyone's time here. I think what happened is, I accidentally pressed the right cursor key when paused, so that my next launch was scarily fast. Quitting and restarting Oolite fixed the problem, but noticing that the launch sequence was faster than the docking sequence (as another_commander points out) I assumed I still had some sort of problem.
Strange I never noticed the difference in tunnel speed during the many hundreds of launches/docks I must have performed. Can't really blame the Ready-Specs this time, either.
Anyway, at least it's made me aware of TAF, which I wasn't before. This is a great new toy to play with!
Thanks for all the help, everyone.

I'd say that counts as another vote in favour of the safety lockout on the TAF keys..Albee wrote:Sorry guys -- I'm wasting everyone's time here. Albee, since it led to you learning about the TAF, it wasn't really a waste of time, was it?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I'll say! What a great feature when sun-skimming -- I'm tempted to install Sensible Suns now.Diziet Sma wrote:Albee, since it led to you learning about the TAF, it wasn't really a waste of time, was it?
