Furry creatures and OXP files

Post by no really »

Wonderful to have discovered Oolite. I used to play Elite on the Beeb and then Archimedes. I seem to recall even finding a copy for my humble Acorn Electron.

Oolite seems a little easier, particularly beginner bits such as manual docking, scrapping with Police etc.

But I got so excited playing for the first four hours that I inadvertently agreed to buy a box of furry animals for 30 credits... They looked so tasty too. Anyhow, the upshot is, they're breeding and floating all over my viewscreen which actually got me into a fair bit of a trouble with a couple of aggressive Kraits. They also sporadically eat a ton of cargo at a time. Humorous as the message "xxx has eaten a crate of narcotics" is, they're becoming a pain in the arse. How do I get rid of them? There is no facility to sell them when docked and no pest control agents available. At least not in Galaxy 1.

On a more technical note, and this may sound a tad idiotic but technically inclined I am not, how do I install OXP files? I've tried dropping them into the AddOns folder but I get a message telling me the folder cannot be modified. I'm running Mac OS 10.3.9 on my humble but well RAMed G4.

Hint on Trumbles. They aren't too tolerant of a hot cabin.

seems like you've either put the Oolite folder inside a protected folder (like Admin-only modifiable Applications) or it'd still be in its dmg..
you can't get ownership&permissions to read&write to the folder above AddOns?

I had the same problem with the add-ons folder, if you copy the entire Oolite folder it should work.

The best place to drop OXPs now is in ~/Library/Application Support/Oolite/AddOns

Because this is in your home folder (~/) you'll always have permission to add/delete files there.

Thanks for the tips. I had been trying to add the OXP's to the AddOns folder in the disk image instead of copying the files across.

In terms of furry beasties, I guess a bit of sun surfing won't go amiss.

Cheers.
