Requesting Permission To Land

Post by Geraldine »

Hi Folks!

Thought I would dis-engage my cloaking device and send you greetings :D

Oolite is a great game and goodness knows how many times I've recommended it to others in other forums, but embarrassingly  I never actually got around to registering on the Oolite forum. Oh well, better late than never!

I am a regular on the Frontier Forum and the SSC and have been following the progress of Pioneer since Tomm (it's creator) first unveiled it and hoping that one day it will be as well supported as Oolite is. Certainly it has a great team of devs working on it.

Also, still waiting for any news about FFE3D from the Russian Elite boards. Rumours are rife that a new exe is being worked on and the game as a whole being converted over to lua.

Would be great to see all 3 of the original games re-made for the modern day. You guys are already there with Oolite and that has set the bar very high. I hope the other two can one day be as polished.

Anyways hello to you all

Welcome to the forum! :D
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Hi Geraldine very warm welcome here :).

Oolite is a gem isn't it ;).

It's really a 'sandbox' of the elite universe. Yep I'm also following progress on Pioneer all the time. But at the moment Oolite is the most playable game with a weath of OXP's.

FTFY. (The original wording could have been mis-interpreted as meaning "Oolite is another of the far-too-many nearly-finished community-developed games" which would be most unfair on the developers.)

Thanks again for the welcomes! :D

The thing I like the best about Oolite is that you have all personalised it by way of OXPs. It really injects humanity into the game and adds all those little details that take the game from "just being another Elite clone" to something greater, more than the sum of it's parts, it's an experience. It can be a game that will make you laugh, make you sad, make you angry and make you relax. Not many games out there can claim do this and not many games have such a community behind it. Its nothing less than sign of Oolite's greatness. Rock on Ooliters! 8)

And you can even be in it when Personalities.oxp is fixed. :D

Hi Geraldine.. welcome aboard! 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Thanks for the welcomes Diziet Sma & Gimi
Now that I have spent a bit of time messing around in Oolite, I've noticed "Oo" pop up quite a few times in front of certain words, eg: Ooniverse

Anyways, after I created a pdf of "Stories Of Life On The Frontier", I decided to re-read them. In the story "When A Plan Works Well", one of the characters, Sophie Redbridge, drinks Oolong tea. I thought this was made up or a spelling error but no! You can actually get Oolong tea, fancy that!

Do you think David Massey (the author) had some premonition that one day Oolite would exist? :?
