3DMF Models?

Post by Mirad Grameron »

Hi,

I'm looking for the Oolite ships in 3DMF format. Does anyone know where I can get them. I could also use a way to translate .dat to .3dmf or .obj. Thanks.

Depends which ships you need. I believe I'm not giving any state secrets away by saying that many of the basic Oolite ship set are available in wings and some other formats on the trunk of the CVS repository. I certainly have access to Alias's Maya, so if you specify which Oolite ships you need, I could probably provide a 3dmf file for you, eventually, via a roundabout route.

May I ask why you need 3dmf, specifically?
And so I gave myself to God. There was a pregnant pause before He said "OK"

Is there anything that uses 3DMF these days? Interesting. *Adds to list of stuff to support in Dry Dock some year*

It doesn't neccesarily have to be in 3dmf. I can take the following formats:

.3ds
.ac
.dae
.off
.lwo
.md2
.bvh
.ndo
.flt
.raw
.obj and
.wings

3dmf would be okay, but wings and obj would be even better.

I plan to take the models and make animated stories with them. If I could get the station and buoy models that'd be great too.

As Flying_Circus said, the source files for all models used in Oolite are available in the repository. To get them, first install Subversion if necessary, then use this command to retrieve the models:

Code: Select all

svn checkout svn://svn.berlios.de/oolite-linux/trunk/Asset%20Source oolite-assets
There are also Python scripts for converting between Obj, Meshworks and Oolite DAT format.

Code: Select all

svn checkout svn://svn.berlios.de/oolite-linux/trunk/tools oolite-tools
If you happen to be working on a Mac, Dry Dock may also be useful.

If anyone has special requests for pictures I don't mind making them.

how about this, an Adder Derby Race scene with spectators and pomp (and disaster). 8)
before Arexack drowned in schoolwork, he had a mad dash creating a big league's worth of AdderRacer skins that he passed on to me, and I got some RaceOfficial and AdvertDroids if yer interested..

They would help indeed. If push comes to shove, I can model my own ships, but Oolitish textures would be hard to get. As for the spectators, do you mean just other ships floating around and watching the race? Or do you want actual stands set up somehow?

Okay, I got the ships down. You can just send me the textures next time, I don't need so many models of the adder.

A problem did come up. The textures were misaligned on some of the models:

Don't worry about it, I'll realign them myself and send the files back to you. Can you take .obj? I can do wings too, and I'll try for .dat, but Dry Dock is still an alpha so it might not work.

P.S.

Sorry I couldn't answer this earlier. I'm in a play and rehearsal takes like six hours.
