Escort contracts

Post by Odo987 »

I see the Aegidian's to-do list includes:
"player-purchasable escort contract"

Sounds great! Will we be able to choose which type of escorts we get to purchase? The four I've seen so far are:

The Spectator. Sits back and watches the fireworks as his employer is reduced to metal fragments.

The Cardiac Patient. Suddenly stops dead in his tracks, and slowly rolls like a pig on a spit.

The Fish. Makes a head-on run towards the attacker. But he's caught in an undulating feedback loop so all his shots pass alternately above and below the attacker as he swims.

The Drunk. Throttles up his engine and pulls a sharp turn to face the attacker. Collides with his employer in the process, destroying himself and helpfully weakening the Anaconda's shields.

Am I missing any others?
Attacking a Navigational Beacon is illegal. Police are on their way.

The absent minded: 'Oh! We're attacked by pirates!', fires a few shots and then drifts off to think about Orveracean flower arrangements. 'Oh yeah! Pirates!', fires a few shots and drifts off again.

Repeat until he's shot down.

:) he could be called The Goldfish.

surely there must be some more die-hard types that sort of already exist..?

The Dunce, young military rejects that are more folishy brave than skilled.

The Fox, experienced pilots who do well but aim to some day retire and somehow survive to work another day.

Those are great. We mustn't forget the newest addition which is about to grace our Ooniverse:

The Can Opener. He's the one who's protecting a slow-moving Anaconda, and decides to drop a Q-mine. Hilarity ensues.

The redneck: shoots at anything that ventures near his front porch (shows up on his scanner), be it pirates, police, traders, asteriods...

Once he gets started it's hard for him to slow down, and not even his employer is safe.

This one is quite active on the radio: "Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. I'll be darned if we aren't attacked by pirates!" or "Yeehaw!" or "That'll show ya!" and when the pirates are fought off: "That was hotter'n a goat's butt in a pepper patch!"

It appears to be a Texas redneck thing. I stayed a month in Texas, but didn't get it either. Probably because I spent my time at the Johnson Space Center, rather than the trailer park.

(If anyone else is going to check the urban dictionary, only the last entry ( 8 ) is informative)

Not limited to Texas. We have it here in good ol' Kentucky. I think I have a T-shirt with Git-R-Done on it hidden in a drawer somewhere. It was a gift from someone, I swear!
It is generally inadvisable to eject over the target you just bombed.

I didn't get it either and I lived in Texas for 6 years. Funny you mention JSC, I used to work virtually opposite JSC (I could see the visitor center rocket park from work's parking lot). I lived in League City just the other side of Clear Lake.

The dictionary says Alabama. Isn't that a bit north of redneck country?

No - 'Bamma is about as far south as you can get - it's a Gulf coast state. Between Florida/Georgia and Mississippi.

If you look hard enough you can find rednecks in every state. They're just more prevalent south of the Mason-Dixon line.
