Should the TAF keys be access-restricted for safety?

Yes, that damn thing makes me nervous when I'm paused

Also, there is still the discussion about time acceleration as a replacement for the torus drive. (IIRC this was discussed as an Oolite 2 change, and is therefore currently on unlimited suspension.)

Hmmm.. only problems I can see with that is that you could have truly ludicrous "torus" speeds, and it would have to insta-off when mass locked.. (as it is, when heading to the sun on torus + TAF=8x, if I get mass-locked, by the time I slow down to a "crawl" (a fraction of a second in RL, faster than I can hit the Pause, anyway), whatever mass-locked me has already drifted off-scanner to my rear, and I can just kick in the torus drive again..

oh yeah, and there's also the matter of certain scripts that don't cope well with high TAF settings.. that would need to be ironed out as well.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

There wouldn't be any torus speeds or masslocking under such a system. All ships would travel at their normal cruising speeds all the time: the only thing that would change would be the player's perceived speed, through time acceleration. This really would mean a massive change to the gameplay (for the better, IMO, but it would be a very very big change). It would mean no more masslocks at all, but there would have to be an insta-off whenever another ship is encountered. It would be up to the player then if they wanted to ramp up the TAF again (e.g. if there was no threat). No more masslocks would mean that players could travel in convoys, and – the biggest and best change, I think – it would make ships slower than a Cobra III properly playable.

But this is, I should stress, entirely hypothetical as far as I know. Apart from anything else it would require NPC AIs to function properly at high speeds – so that, for example, if the player sits outside a station with the TAF ramped up, there won't be a succession of crashes, or that if the player tries to go into combat with the TAF on, they'll get creamed.

I'm thinking that we could have takeSnapShot() only work if there's a connected js console, thereby clarifying - yet again - the debug-only nature of those two! :)
HELL, NO! Two of my favourite OXPs use takeSnapshot. Don't be surprised if you receive an immoderately worded PM.

Aww man, not this debate again...

Speed is fun, or the perception of it anyway. let's keep the game fun please. :)
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.
