Dang!! I thought since 10.04 had been the longer supported version of Ubuntu 10, that 11.04 would be the same for Ubuntu 11.

There aren't versions 10 or 11 of Ubuntu. 10.04 means it was released in April 2010, 10.10 in October 2010, 11.04 in April 2011, and 11.10 in October 2011. 10.04 is currently the LTS (Long Term Support) version, and 11.10 the latest stable version. 12.04 is still in beta, although it is scheduled to be officially released next week on the 26th. It will then become the latest stable version, and is also designated an LTS (every 4th version becomes an LTS).

Well, that's an eye opener. I thought they just numbered the OSs like Mac, and Windows. Maulby, you said "when I get a computer", I have an extra desktop you could have. Not meaning to be nosy, but where do you live? If the shipping wasn't too much, I could send it to you. You would have to provide the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, though. Just a thought.

I see. So, in other words, shut your face and stop posting nonsense on this forum. I would make a response, but I don't think that kind of language would go over too well on the forum. Besides, though I have a bad temper, and am kind of stupid, I try not to use bad language. Darn tempting at times, though.

Oh, and I found those oxps to which you refer, and also the Snoopers, and Thargoin Threat, before I even noticed your kind and helpful suggestions. However, I'm now dealing with a problem that has nothing what-so-ever with this thread. It's related to Linux, so you shouldn't have to waste your time on it.

No, in other words deal with the obvious glitches that can be seen from a simple read-through of the log you posted, so that the system is simplified as much as possible to leave only the more complex issue (in the worst case, or ideally even fixing the problem as a result).

Given that various OXPs are explicitly warning you that bits they need are missing, they perhaps could be presumed to then exit gracefully and not cause problems. But it could not be guaranteed that this is the case, nor that the three doublings-up aren't doing the same.

The post above wasn't meant as "shut your face", it was meant as "you're good enough not to need help to actually read a log and act on what it's telling you" and was surprise that you hadn't.

I'm good enough now? Why do you think I don't usually release any ships with custom AIs and Java Scripts? It's the script that gives me fits. I looked through that Latest.log until my eyes were crossed, and had just barely caught the double entries before I saw your post. That's after a couple of days of looking at the log. Maybe you think I'm lazy, or faking it, or something, but the real fact is that I don't know squat about computer script, and struggle with it, even just trying to read it. I don't know how many ship oxps I went made before I got to the point of not needing help finding the glitches.

It's all moot, at the moment, as the game keeps crashing every time I try playing, since I installed Ubuntu 11.10. I have stopped playing because of it, and if I can't figure out why it's happening, I don't suppose I'll be making any more posts anyway.

If you don't want your ships to do something extraordinary, they need neither custom AIs nor JS-scripts. All they need is

For most of my ships, that is what I have done. However, I get these ideas about certain ships, wanting to make them behave in a way that isn't defined in the core files. I had a ship called the SolarTanker, which I need to rebuild. I wanted it to be a Quirium tanker. The behavior, or reaction, or what ever, to being attacked was to first be broadcasted warnings to the foolishness of destroying the SolarTanker, and the reaction to being destroyed would be a Quirium bomb explossion. There were a couple of others, like the UFOship, that I wanted to behave in a particular way that needed custom scripting. I couldn't make it happen. THAT is somethng I wish I knew. A couple of you have tried to instruct me, but I can't seem to grasp the way scripts go together.

It doesn't matter. I'll just do what you said, as that is my only recourse anyway.

The first part with the messages sounds similar to some existing ships, for instance the Woma Fuel Tanker from  transports.oxp. So that would be a place to nick some code from.

I see. Thanks for the lead. Here's the next question, can I just use THAT AI in the shipdata.plist for my ship, or do I need to make a unique AI for it to work? I've tried writing AIs, using the HowTo Wiki, but I don't see that my ships follow AIs I write, even if they are nearly word-for-word copies of another, working AI.

I removed a few oxps from the AddOns folder, and I don't get the crashes any more. It doesn't make sense to me, as Ubuntu 11.10 should be even better at handling that much processing than 10.10 did. I had a lot of oxps going at the same time with 10.10, and it handled it with no problem. Now I'm finding new quirks, like why is the rear laser starting several paces back from actual laser? Why is the top speed of the ship I just made only reaching 160, when I specified 450? Those are issues I had long overcome on Ubuntu 10.10, but are now back in 11.10. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any idea what the problem actually is, or if it even has anything to do with the OS, but the fact is that all of these things were NOT happening when I was using 10.10, and ARE happening with 11.10. Just puzzles me. At least I'm back to playing the game again without crashes.

That's normal, so that should confirm there are not multiple copies of Oolite installed (between the Ubuntu Software Centre and manual installations I managed to have 3 copies installed at once).

Within [size=120]~/.Oolite/Addons[/size] (if it exists) and [size=120]~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/Addons[/size] , are there any directories other than [size=120].oxp[/size] directories, for example called [size=120]Config[/size] or [size=120]Scripts[/size] ? Also, are there any [size=120].js[/size] or [size=120].plist[/size] files in the [size=120]AddOns[/size] directories? It should look like this and not contain anything other than the .oxps:

and that list of OXPs should, of course, match the list in the Latest.log and it might be worth doing that comparison.

If there are directories such as [size=120]Config[/size] or [size=120]Scripts[/size] immediately beneath [size=120]AddOns[/size] or files such as a [size=120]shipdataplist.plist[/size] in there, then the unzipping of an OXP probably went wrong and it will need tidying up.

I think my oxping days are over.

I checked Latest.logs oxp listings against my AddOns folder, and it all looks correct. My eyes about went crosseyed checking, though, so I might have missed something. I developed a system of where files are in my Oolite folder, and it seemed to work before my system crashed. There is the AddOns folder at the top. I then made a folder called "SuppotFolders", which are just any folders that contained the actual oxps, or still have the ReadMe files, and such, in them. I also made a folder called "Uninstalled oxps", which I broke down inside to Ships, Missions, Equipment, HUDs, Sounds, Stations, and Miscelaneous. They never seemed to cause trouble before. I thought the game only paid attention to the AddOns folder, but if those others are causing confussion, I'll put them in a different folder. The only Config, or Script files, other than those within the AddOns folder, are in those folders I just listed. Is that part of the problem?

and the last three are just ignored.
