I built a machine recently for a friend, I5 2500K on an ASUS micro-ATX motherboard. Installed Win7 with all the updates and the motherboard support, before installing the graphics card I installed trunk 4800 and gave it a run with no problems, using the inbuilt HD3000. I did this to check on performance the log reported opengl version 3.2 - full shaders and a frame rate of about 70 fps, with a 23" screen running 1680x1080. This was obviously a clean system, but it worked quite well.

Can you remember the driver revision for the openGL3.2 version on HD3000 Ironfist, and was the driver download from Intel or ASUS?

The current driver on the Intel site appears to be 8.15.10.2622 dated 20/1/12 and is openGL3.1. I've got problems with view positions and planet rendering with all the openGL3.1 driver revisions I've tried including this one, so am still using an old openGL3.0 driver which is fine (8.15.10.2279 dated 7/1/11).

Edit - just found 8.15.10.2656 (dated 22/02/2012) and am downloading.....

Further edit - and it appears to be good :D . Still reports as OpenGL 3.1, but no problem with view positions, planet rendering is good and it appears to have fixed a shader problem I was having with Thargoid's Hammerhead from Aquatics. Now to see if it's properly stable.....

Capt. Murphy,

Don't remember the driver revision, I can probably find out in a week or 2 when we meet up again, but it was straight off the CD that came with the motherboard. Just wanted to see if HD3000 would be any good, I knew that I would be installing a reasonable graphics card. The machine in question is not used for gaming so it was just a quick test during the build, since I am considering replacing one of my machines.

edit: Just checked the ASUS site and there are 3 vga drivers listed for the motherboard, P8H61-M, dated March 2011, November 2011, February 2012. Think it is unlikely to be the latest but it might be the November 2011 one.

Thanks Ironfist - it looks like the oldest driver on the ASUS website is a revision that slightly predates the working one I've been using for a while so I guess that's probably what was on the disc. Unless is my processor/GPU that was the problem - mines an i5 2430M (HD3000) rather than an i5 2500 (HD2000 according to Intel).

Capt. Murphy,

The processor I used is the i5 2500K which has the HD3000 and is not limited for its clock settings. When I next see them I will see if they will let me pull the graphics card and update the driver to see if the latest one will work. If they will let me I will also put some of the more shader intensive OXP on and give it a try.
