Oolite for Android please
Well I'm sitting here having fun in the hospital and wished I could fly my cobra mk iii on my Android phone.
My asthma has flared up and I could easily eenjoy losing myself in Oolite to kill time.
I've got an HTC incredible S phone which runs on mid OS for Android.
Now with so many portable possibilities I know even this is a great undertaking.
The coding language seems to be quite similar to Android as it is for pc but I'm just learning all the basics but with what I've seen for game apps for Android the graphics would be playable in the platform.
Because of having no internet through my pc I downloaded oxps to transfer to my pc so there's no problems allowing oxps.. anyway if anyone has considered this platform for Oolite it would be interesting to know what it takes
Thanks for anyone's future input

Re: Oolite for Android please
It's not going to happen I suspect - architecturally they're just too different... BUT... Giles (Aegidian) wants to convert Oolite to work on the Raspberry Pi and that's much closer to a Phone's OS and architecture - so you never know...
(Although Fedora (on the Pi) and Android (on the phone) are different enough to not make it particularly easy, although Graphically both use OpenGL ES)

Re: Oolite for Android please
I am not convinced that it will be easy at all, although technically it might be possible. A very quick search on the net seems to indicate that there is an objc-2.0 compiler project in the works for Android, BUT... the Foundation library is not implemented (yet) and that is going to be a problem for an Oolite port.

PS - You can always download a Spectrum emulator and then get hold of an image of the original Spectrum Elite on your Android phone.

Just out of curiosity: Has the Spectrum ROM been put into the public domain? Because otherwise GalCop might give you Offender status...DaddyHoggy wrote:PS - You can always download a Spectrum emulator and then get hold of an image of the original Spectrum Elite on your Android phone.

I think it has ... see here. It seems to be that Amstrad, who own the copyright, are happy for the ROM to be distributed as long as no-one is charged for it.maik wrote:Just out of curiosity: Has the Spectrum ROM been put into the public domain? Great! I wish others would adopt that stance for ROMs of legacy hardware... but back on topic nowDisembodied wrote:I think it has ... see here. That is interesting. Currently installing on both my pad and phone. It's a port of the Elite-A version of Elite it seems. Hope the missions are there. Did you make it?

I'm not normally a religious person but if the Giles does do that then I will happily join the Black Monks, wear my pants on my head and sit in a bowl of cold porridge during compline.BUT... Giles (Aegidian) wants to convert Oolite to work on the Raspberry Pi

Cold porridge is for matins, surely? Compline is "cuddle a damp teddy bear".Greyth wrote:I'm not normally a religious person but if the Giles does do that then I will happily join the Black Monks, wear my pants on my head and sit in a bowl of cold porridge during compline.
(You can't beat a church school education. Mostly because you're small, young and outnumbered.)

The porridge may well originate at matins but that's too early for me. I'd starve to death. All praise the Giles.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Elite port.
@Gimi
Did you manage to get your hands on it?
I have installed it on an LG P500 smartphone and
had a chance to show it to another_commander too.

Yep, both on my pad and my phone. It's a good start, but the control system needs a lot of work.Getafix wrote:@Gimi

To bad really. I need to pull it out and save it separately now.
