[WIP] Colonization.OXP
Hi All,
I have been playing with the idea for a while. The Aim of the project is to setup Colonies and provide some missions in the Colony, A colony will simulate material handling, population, trade routes to near by systems and may have sort of colony sim associated with it. Or just keep as an eye candy.
I have been experimenting a model which you could fly in and dock with the center station.
That is early stages of the OXP and I need new ideas and help for texturing and modeling as well as how the colony will be build at first place and the mechanics for the population increase and decrease due to the needs to be fullfilled.
The screenshot of the untextured model is below.
This screen shot is actually taken inside the colony.

I've been fortunate enough to have a sneak peak at this, and it is awesome! This is a vast structure and you can fly around inside it, between the struts and everything

Second time I launched from the station at Raleen in G1 found myself surrounded by the colony. Station embedded partly in the colony wall.

Well that is a test OXP for the model, but it never happened to me the station to be partially inside the colony. Though once I had two of them at nearly the same position with different orientations.Ironfist wrote:Downloaded and tried it.

For this project I need serious texturing help. I know nothing about texturing I can do the scripting and models.

We are working on it to find a suitable way of doing the model at the moment. The released model has about 70 sub entities, works fine with my computer at 60 fps, but Smivs had 4 fps. So any feed back is wellcome. When the model does not eat a lot of system resources we have an idea of how to texture it.pagroove wrote:Station - SuperHub - and this (Hyperhub?)

Are you gonna place it in orbit around the planet near the main station or do you place it on the Planet-Sun route?

I was actually planning to place it at the other side of the sun from the planet But the location is not important atm, the first priority is to have it working and textured. That may be a sim later, where the player goes on his usual trading, mining or bounty hunting(missed smuggling ) but the player will be in charge of the development of the colony.pagroove wrote:Are you gonna place it in orbit around the planet near the main station or do you place it on the Planet-Sun route?
I prefer to go step by step. And we will need all the help we can get.

The presence of the station does not seem to make any difference to the frame rate on my big machine, getting between 50 and 65 fps depending on what is on screen. Running XP SP3 on a E8400 with 2G of memory and with a ATI 5750 graphics card running 1920x1200 using 12.1 drivers giving OpenGL 4.2.11399. Currently have 99 world scripts loaded and running trunk R4800. Will give it a try on the laptop later, much less powerful.
