Dear fellow Ooniverse Commanders

It's not often you get a chance to network wi  th people about a truly timeless classic game.
I was introduced to Elite in the Commodore 64,days and even to this day I still think its one of the best examples of true replay value.

In the evolving technology I figured that others out there would really get the eternal playability concept of what Elite is. An absolute Gem creation.

I laugh at the number of times I tried looking for an updated version. This is where I learned of Oolite.
I give exceptional praise to those of you who dedicated a considerable amount of time making this amazing game concept a truly new life.

Trying to keep this short but I want to really give thanks to the people responsible for breathing new life into this game. I think the oxp expandable design approach is literally genius. This has taken Elite into Oolite and next gen.

When I explain Oolite/Elite to people I find myself stating the following.

First I think it is a true ancestor to the sandbox style games. I say imagine Grand Theft Auto in space. The first game I can remember where your choices have real consequences.

I now say because of the additions of recycling missions, that will never get boring, but I've said that Oolite is similar to Skyrim in space..

When I can play a remade version of a game that birthed pretty much 30 years old and if I can play that off and on for 3 months straight that's gotta say something is special about Oolite. The graphics are gorgeous and its inspiring me to possibly get involved with some oxp development.

For years I've said how come no one has come out with a game that stands up to Elite or Oolite and offers limitless options??? I've really looked at certain games and what makes these stand the test of time.
For me graphics are important to a point. The game play model of Oolite is eternal.

Thank you to all of the developers, programmers and other people even the gamers who hold a very special place in their hearts for this amazing game.

I have a couple questions but I'm new to this forum but its nice to be a part of a growing family for something truly unique.

In the Random Escort Missions I had to do an escort to Ridequat system and I completed the mission but when I docked I didn't get a mission complete screen I wonder if I should uninstall the oxp or go back to the system but this might be a possible bug to report so I would appreciate it of someone could share some insight to this..

Thanks for your time
Commander

Welcome to the friendliest boards this side of Reidquat Megalodon..... :)

For future reference it's usually better to post questions or bug reports about a particular OXP in that OXP's discussion thread. The author is then more likely to spot the post and be able to help.

Luckily I'm the author of Escort Contracts.oxp so should be able to help.....

Can you confirm if you are using the current version? The folder/file in your AddOns folder should be called Escort_Contracts_1.5.1_2012-02-05.oxp

The discussion thread for Escort_Contracts can be found at https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9713

I assume you mean Escort Contracts, not Random Hits, as there is no Random Escorts ;-) Did the ship that you escorted tell you that it considers your service completed now? This happens when it reaches the station aegis. From then on you can just go ahead and dock and when you arrive you should get a mission screen telling you that you earned your due.

That's affirm.

I reached ridequat geosynch orbit and vectoring to the station in formation and as soon as ageis was achieved
Was granted confirmation of mission complete and go for docking..

When docked it gave no payment screen.

So I'm guessing i didn't hit the right button because it usually goes right to the payout and summary of the mission.

I'll probably go back to Ridequat to see if I missed it but at a different station I received word that others were offering contracts .
So was shocked when I reloaded and no escort missions were available.
Thanks for replying and its going to take me a while to get use to the interface on the forums.
Doing it from my Android phone.
When I accepted it and followed my escort Target through the wormhole I somehow died ????

Amazing forum already its nice to be a part of this community.
It's too bad Oolite didn't have online mmorpg gameplay.

It's ok that it doesn't because from what I have already experienced in the game so far is amazing and because the technology of computers and such have evolved phenomonally over last 30 years its nice that the Oolite development was inspired.

This game can just only get better.

If I decide to venture into the creation of oxps I don't know where I start with getting compilers for c and such I'm such a newbie to this but as I've played Oolite my imagination has inspired to imagine other possibilities to enhance this game further.

Do you have by any chance the Your Ads Here OXP installed? This replaces the witchpoint buoys with huge advertising screens, and sometimes your ship is spawned so close to the screen that it smashes into it instantly, before you can do anything about it.

Or it is possible that you came out on top of your escort target and didn't survive the collision.

Which version of Oolite are you using?

We have a whole long thread about why it is good that Oolite is not multi player, and why it would be bad if it were.

The best start for getting into OXPs is to have a look into some of the existing OXPs. Also, there is no need for a C compiler or anything like that. All scripting is done in JavaScript, and properties are assigned with property lists which are either in XML or OpenStep. For all of that you need nothing but an ordinary text editor. :D

Can you post the contents of your latest.log on the forum in between quote tags.

See http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite ... g_Problems for how to find latest.log

Can you also open your save game in a text editor and post the contents in between quote tags.

Ok ill have to figure out a way to transfer it to my Android phone then upload it that way. I'll have to do that tomorrow.

Definitely using the newest release 1.76
I had to give up my latest save I had over 2 million credits because I bet id win a combat at a hunting lodge so
It was like holy I'm rich. But whenever I witchspace jumped Oolite would crash.

I've spent considerable hours updating all the oxps to make sure they're up to date.

I love the registration id oxp but I have to turn shaders down on my laptop so i end up losing it because Oolite lags
.
I'll prep those requests and upload them tomorrow later today.

Oh I think Oolite would evolve considerably if it were multiplayer but from my early reads it seems like due to the programming required that this endeavour would be an amazing undertaking.

Who knows. With all the additions to Oolite that have been created its almost in a way created its own single player server ... Rats my battery is low ill talk to you all later in the day. Thank you all for making me feel welcome.

Hej Megalodon, welcome.
So was shocked when I reloaded and no escort missions were available.
That is most likely normal behaviour of the game, there's 2 things :

- Each time you load a game, the Ooniverse is created anew.
Only some stuff is written to (and read from) a savegame, like local commodity market, cargo+passenger market, shipmarket ...
Plus some OXPs come with scripts to make sure some things are re-created everytime you load a savegame, but not others.

- Some OXPs will decide if there is a mission on offer anew every time you visit the screen for that.
E.g. Planetfall Taxi - each time I hit F5F5 it decides anew if someone wants to be transported somewhere.

Have fun ...

Have you come across Frontier? That kept me entertained for months.

And there's no end of £50 games which look fantastic but after an afternoon's playing, are dull.

FTFY :) . As stated above, read this thread. After an afternoon's playing, it would be dull.

OK pretty cool discussion going on

Post by MEGALODON »

Well again thanks for everyone's comments. It's nice to bounce off ideas.

Feudal States oxp interesting situation, wondering if the tech level has anything to do if there's a hunting lodge present. I put the 1.13v into the add ons and it did not enable.
Looking at other oxps I've had for previous versions I've got a v 1.3 am I correct to guess this is the newest version?

I can always try it oh to those that asked me about copying and pasting about latest log to a thread so you can figure out what might be creating this glitch..

Would those of you please email me from your email addresses if possible and I can attach those files for those that asked. [email protected]

I'm navigating this from my Android phone and have absolutely no internet otherwise.
If you all can bare with me while I still get used to how everything world I'd appreciate
Oh I also DL the cobra ship but my targeting won't lock on could be simple of a restart. I'm grateful to you all for helping me out
getting started. I am totally ok with Oolite being single player although

The text entry is really frustrating from the phone.

But I appreciate everyones patience and I appreciate all your help.

Oh yes and I'm very familiar with frontier, there's a new project called Pioneer which is supposed to be an amazing rebuild of the dated OS (Dos) I think was . I find the controls very unpilot like.

Hope to hear from you soon

I love flying in Oolite and find frontier doesn't really allow you that

Megalodon,

Just out of interest is there any chance that the ship you were escorting was destroyed after getting to the station Aegis and giving you the mission complete message but before you docked?

I've just done a quick once-over the scripts and that's the only obvious cause of what you've described although I'm not discounting that there may be a bug hidden in there (the changes from 1.4x to 1.5x were fairly extensive, and I may have introduced new bugs).
The other possibility could be an interaction with Save Anywhere.OXP, especially if at any point you've done an Save Anywhere save, and then removed the OXP before reloading the savegame. I don't think this would cause any obvious problems in game, but you would have a left over missionVariable stored in the savegame from Save Anywhere which would suppress Escort Contract mission screens.

Tech level has something to do with it, but you will need to download the official Feudal States Readme to understand which systems have hunting lodges and royal courts. The latest version of this OXP is v1.13.
